Why I Hate Wonder Woman

1) She has no weaknesses, meaning there's practically no drama in any fights that include her. She's going to win since she's on the side of good, and a woman; unlike Superman, there's no handheld mcguffin that's going to weaken her in any way. This used to not be the case, when she was first introduced, since back then if she was tied up (preferably by a man) she would lose her powers and have to rely on her brain instead. When that weakness was removed because social standards were changing for the worse, nothing was put in to replace it. Hence, her fights are inherently boring.

2) She's a princess of the superwoman-only island of Themyscira, and her society tends to have a pretty dismal view of men, seeing them as inherently immoral and inferior to women and not worthy of the same level of respect, despite having very little contact with men as a whole. How are we supposed to connect and like someone, let alone a member of that flawed society's royalty, who originates and symbolises such a revolting culture? Not to mention how combat has a very high focus in Themyscira, instead of more acceptable activities like farming and weaving and the like.

3) She was created by William Marston, a man who viewed matriarchies as inherently superior to patriarchies (especially unusual for the 1940s), and preferred female domination over men, which directly led to Themyscira's female-only population and the initial focus of bondage. Indeed, a part of his worldview was "submission to loving authority", which supposedly only exists under female rule.
The character of Wonder Woman was, as a result, heavily flawed from the outset, and has never recovered from it.

Wonder Woman is a worthless character who just needs to die off and be forgotten. She is, in some ways, worse than Marvel's Captain Marvel, primarily her society and real-world conception.
Let's not forget that, in her most recent film, she flat-out raped a man and wanted "him" to die so Steve Trevor could remain in his body, though only she could see his face - so the man's family and friends would see nothing but him acting unlike himself and loving a woman he had never met before, and if he already had a girlfriend or wife...? Not to mention how Steve committed crimes whilst forced into hijacking his body, and the man was left nameless (thus lacking any characterisation whatsoever except for "Handsome Man" in the credits - gee, that's definitely objectification; aren't feminists supposed to be against that? Oh, right, that only applies to women, gotcha, bigoted arseholes).

Review after playing a bit:
Great game! It's got a quirky atmosphere with a twisty turny plot that's simple and sweet (like a Strabby!) but it'll keep you on your toes with fun gameplay and bangin music to boot, featuring a special track from award winning musician and avid Death Grips lover Sarah Midori with her ever-popular band Kero Kero Bonito. Cool characters, fun voice acting and an overall great time, too bad it's a bit short clocking in at 7 hours.

It's got bugs, it's got snax. It's got a little bit for everyone. This game really makes you FEEL like Bugsnax. For $25 dollars on pc, the price is a bit steep for the content you're gonna get but it's a refreshing experience well worth it if you can put up with downloading the Epic Games store (the horror!). Try to pick it up on sale if you can or buy it now if you really feel like it! I promise you won't be disappointed.

I'm hurt that you'd assume I'd pirate a game that's exclusively available on the epic games store, absolutely absurd. I'll have you know I got it through entirely legitimate means with just a little bit of help from my friend fitgirl.

Still get a big kek from seeing the amazonians (either cut) try to trap a being that can teleport and then try to kill him with regular ass arrows. Not to mention leaving the fate of the world up to chance that Diana is 1. Still alive 2. Will remember what a flaming arrow means. 3. Will get the message. 4. Can do anything about it without the help of her sisters.
The wakandans might dress and act like Tribes but at least they invested in technology.

Gotta love how the conversation's turned to a random game as opposed to the topic in the OP. But then again, I suppose that's what happens when the Reddit board-ahem, sorry, I mean, the circlejerk from the political section sees a topic title that triggers their sensibilities and can only respond with memes and scoffing. I find that Seliph has no self awareness quoting Pat Robertson (who I also couldn't care for, fwiw) when the way she and others supporting her are acting the way fundamentalist Christians do when describing evolution to their own followers.

There's going to come a day for all of you when the shit hits the fan from fragmentation in political/ religious communities (and yes, Atheism is a religion for those in the vocal Atheist communities on the Internet. If you have Penn Jillette preaching at Atheist churches unironically, it's no different from Christians and Muslims worshipping their gods) like it did with the New Atheists and the AtheisTubers where the community falls apart and no one will ever take you seriously again outside of your echo chamber where you won't ever grow and see things in a more complex or nuanced way.

Ironically, thanks to everything that's been happening in the world, there's more people than I think you guys are aware of that are waking up and becoming aware of the very real dangers people have of losing even the most basic of freedoms after the proverbial frog has been brought to boil over the past 100+ years. I know, "if you wanted free speech, then you shouldn't have joined a moderated forum," as DinohScene once said, but if you want people to take your opinions seriously, stick to what you know as opposed to going out of your way in talking about subjects you don't even truly understand.

No brand is your friend.

The 1% and politicians from both sides of the aisle are all drinking from the same wine glasses.

Money is the root of all kinds of evil. The only reason it exists is for people to get the things that it can buy as opposed to working for it and trading something of inherent value for something greater. Don't let the stuff you've accumulated own you.

The funny thing about conversations like this about comic book heroes is that it never really makes sense. Comic book heroes are written by many different authors and each writer brings a different vision for their character. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wonder_Woman_creators

Saying that Wonder Woman definitively has X trait doesn't really make sense because chances are while that may be the case for one depiction, that may not be the case for another. Same thing goes for other characters. Earlier I mentioned that Wonder Woman used to be weak to being tied up by a man, that's because that was William Marston's original interpretation of the character. She no longer tends to have that weakness because her character has been written by various different people since 1947, and these people have decided they wanted to change things around quite a bit.

Another example I can give is batman. He's been many different things. From Adam West's goofy tv show depiction, from the Fascism of Frank Miller's Dark Knight to a version where Batman becomes a vampire. If I told you "oh my god I hate Batman because he's a fascist" that's only partially true. Is Adam West a Fascist? No. Are Vampires Fascist? Not usually. But Frank Miller's version of Batman IS a Fascist. Saying Batman is a Fascist isn't really true, but it is true for one specific version of him.

Overall, heroes are just characters. They can be literally anything, writers change their backstories, their personalities, their powers, basically anything. The only thing that stays constant is the character's name. Batman is always Batman, Wonder Woman is always Wonder Woman but everything other than that can change. Chances are if you have a complaint about one iteration of a character, you can find another version that you'll love. That's the beauty of comic book heroes. I think Fascist Batman is a loser, I think Frank Miller is a bitter old dumb nerd but that's okay because Adam West will always be there if I want something better.

@0xFFFFFFFF "the root of ALL KINDS OF EVIL." When one looks at a concordance for that verse, that's what it actually says. It isn't saying money itself is bad. The 1% not being your friend has to do with their interests not being in your nation, culture, or community. That's why many who are actually counter-cultural say to support small businesses as opposed to shopping at Walmart. Because when COVID Passports become soft mandated, the only options for those who should be rightly skeptical of vaccines that the FDA has only officially approved for emergency use will be those small businesses who don't get subsidies from the government to bail out the lost business they get from denying service to customers that, in a truly free market, would cause them to lose business nationwide.

People were saying that this shit would be coming a year ago, and you Twitter types are the same people who called them crazy for thinking that such a thing would happen. Now, what do you do? You just go along with it?

But then again, you don't want to refute my points because you actually don't have anything to counter it with.

@Seliph Communism vs. Capitalism is ultimately a question of the worth of the individual. Are they inherently of infinite value as Free Market Capitalism proposes, or is their value based only on their work and their contributions to a collective? And what has the latter got us? Countries that implemented having food shortages that lead to death by starvation, throwing people into prison for wrongthink, and the stripping away of all rights, be they human, property, animal, etc..

This is on topic because nowadays, "feminism" is just a vehicle to get more socialist ideas implemented in Western societies. If they were truly feminist, why aren't they helping women out in China? How about every nation in the Middle East not called Israel? No, instead, the "feminism" of today has got Trans "women" into female sports, and it's led to the biological women being able to compete fairly with other biological women something of the past.

"Morality" to just pat yourself on the back is immoral. It's a form of narcissism that is not altruistic in any way, shape, or form.

Socialism and Feminism are good actually and I don't think you understand what either of them means at all.

The free market has implemented murderous regimes across the world, Pinochet in Chile, Batista in Cuba, Diem in South Vietnam, etc. All in the name of free markets, of free trade. The free market has murdered millions due to artificial famine such as the Bengal Famine. The free market has murdered Communists and workers in Germany, Korea, Vietnam, all across South America. The free market will coup other countries for wrongthink and murder leaders like Salvador Allende for simply being socialist, for believing in worker's rights. The free market uses sweatshop labor in foreign countries, it exploits migrant laborers and destroys our ozone layer with corporations contributing to around 80% of all global emissions.

Just to give a brief example, socialism in Cuba has brought free universal education, 99% literacy rates, free and accessible healthcare (to the point that Cuban doctors are sent around the world to assist developing countries because their doctors are some of the best in the world), it has ensured that all its citizens can be housed and has created one of the most diverse and egalitarian parliaments with 48.9% of the Cuban National Assembly being comprised of women, something even the most developed of Capitalist countries failed to achieve. Without revolutionaries like Fidel Castro and Che Guevara in Cuba they would still be a sugar colony exploited and beaten down by US corporations under Batista.

If you want a good example of a place in the middle east that is socialist and supports the rights of women, just look at Rojava.
https://www.haaretz.com/middle-east...tarian-and-feminist-society-emerges-1.7339983

When you say the free market is "free" who is it "free" for? The slave working in Cuban sugar mills? The child garment worker in an Indian sweatshop? The slave in Africa forced to mine blood diamonds? Immigrant farmers in the US who are underpaid and overworked? No. It is only free for the people who run the market, for the owners of the sugar mills, the garment factories, the diamond mines, the plantations. It is only free for the rich to throw their money around and create more money while workers are forced to grovel at their feet for a wage or starve to death on the streets.

Real freedom is the freedom of the emancipated worker who is able to take control of their labor and their lives, not the false freedom of Capitalist exploitation.

The free market ain't free.
