Years ago....all the way back in 2012 I bought a couple of Humble Indie Bundles. My main reason for jumping in was that you pay what you wanted for the offered bundle and you could specify for which platform you wanted your order to count. Obviously I was in for Linux! Power to the Penguin!
In one of those bundles there was a hidden gem (for me anyway) and that game was: World Of Goo! I have spend many hours building the insane structures required to solve the puzzles. The music was awesome too and perfectly fit the level you are playing. Sometimes it's sad, feels like a Hollywood red carpet show, and when it's intense so did the music. There was also sort of a story about a big corporation...and the signs explaining what to do if you got stuck had some of the best jokes!
So why did I get to play this game again? Well...a few years ago there was the ability to import the games from the humble bundle into steam. But it did not include the Linux version unfortunately. Now the Steam Deck is out and that runs Linux with the Proton library....lot's of "windows only" games are becoming playable on Linux! Awesome! And I just tried World Of Goo a few days ago and it launched without any issue at all! I am not even really sure if it's the windows version or native Linux....but it runs and that's what counts!
Now with steam there are a few extra's in the form of achievements. While there are not that many for World Of Goo, in fact there are just 8 of them! But actually getting them is going to take MANY hours of playing each and every level all over again. This time not just trying to solve the puzzle but also staying within the OCD objective of the level! This could mean save a certain level of goo balls, finish in a really short time...something like that. Maybe only that ...I have not looked at all of them yet.
The achievements for the OCD flags are per chapter, or world, of which there are 5. And then if you get all 5 of them you get an extra one for that. And there seems to be a secret part somewhere since there is a special achievement for it!
At least I got the first one for completing all levels the "normal" way! I doubt I will get all....since in some levels I really stretch the limits and barely make it through. But who knows...hahaha.
And that was it for now. Happy new year everyone!
