First-party Xbox games to cost $70 starting 2023

xbox games.JPG

As reported by IGN, Xbox plans to hike the prices of its first-party titles in the new year. Titles like Forza Motorsport, Redfall and Starfield will cost $69.99 USD at launch in 2023. While there might be differences in regional pricing, Xbox didn't provide the details for other countries.

"This price reflects the content, scale, and technical complexity of these titles," a Microsoft spokesperson told IGN. "As with all games developed by our teams at Xbox, they will also be available with Game Pass the same day they launch.”

In October, Phil Spencer hinted at such a price hike and we now have a confirmation; at least when it comes to first party Xbox games. For the time being, the pricing for Xbox's other offerings such as Game Pass has remained unchanged and will be the case until the end of the year.

that means FP xbox games will cost over 100$ in Canada
I really hope Nintendo doesn't go that way because LOT of canadian are going to boycott them and the best they'll do to continue with Nintendo is either buy the console and mod it, or literally go straigth with emulators...

PS : If Nintendo goes that way, I'll keep buying their game on the next console, but as soon as there is a working emulator or a working console mod, I'll stop and download free games

If you can afford a $300-$600 system, you can afford a $70 game. Stop being entitled cheap asses.
70 bucks for a broken buggy ass game where i still have buy all of the DLC witch will add 30-70 more bucks. witch is more like 100-150 for the hole ass game and lets not forget those funny microtransactions and loot boxes!!!. When i can buy a 20 dollar AAA game from 2011 (Or a GOTY game on sale) with ALL of the DLC and extra's and have a fun time.
And the more people there are like yourself, the higher prices will go. You're part of the problem.
How the hell is using a different platform rasing the prices on games?

Lucky you, you have sales on video games in your country? :O
No for real, I don't know about the rest of Canada, but here in Quebec, the only sales we have on video games are on online stores. In real life stores, there are literally NO sales at all, like NE-VER.
The best sales you'll get is like 5$ off on a 80$ games on Black Friday, that's it.
Oh yea, I forgot... There are real sales on video game in Quebec too, yea... when a console is discontinued, then the less popular of its games will get like 25% off

"It's only $10!" Multiply that by the average number of games you may purchase in a given year, and it adds up. $10 buys my coffee for the month. I'd rather have my daily fix than buying a new AAA title that arrives broken and relies on a few months of updates and patches to be decent... You want to raise the prices, raise the standard of quality first. Thanks.

I find it interesting that so many are acting like a $70.00 price point hasn't been a thing before.

N64 MSRP for comparison (keep in mind some retailers marked these prices up by $5-$10 past MSRP):
