Chi's Sweet Home: New Address
(English Translation Patch)

Me and my two translator buddies have been working on translating this game into english for a while now. I thought it was time to make a thread about it, since most of the important text is done now. It's the DS game of 'Chi's Sweet Home', which wouldn't ever get a proper english release, so we thought we would translate it ourselves

Here's a brief description of the game:
QUOTE said:
The Yamada Family has been blessed with a wide-eyed kitten who goes by the name of Chi. Once the family and feline have gotten used to each other and cohabitate in relative harmony, Chi explores the apartment as well as the local park with equal amounts of curiosity and unbounded energy. Gamers may interact with Chi by using the stylus to control a virtual hand which pets Chi and rubs its neck in order to bond with the animal. An assortment of 8 mini-games that all feature Chi as the main actor are also playable when special events are triggered.
Basically, its a simple pet sim, which is cool if you're a fan of the manga or anime. The game is also real-time which means that Chi sleeps when you do... so that makes it harder to unlock things quickly. If anyone unlocks everything, kindly lend us your savefile so we can test it!!

Patch Download (v1)
Chi_EngPatch_v1
(Lots translated, but still incomplete)

All the important graphics have been translated below! (But not in the game) If you can edit the in-game graphics, PLEASE let us know!

What's translated:
- Most unlockable event scenes
- Almost all items
- All minigame names and descriptions
- Almost all tutorials
- All Event Names
- All Chi's animation names

What's NOT translated:
- A few items, due to space constraints
- Item descriptions (May add them in a future patch)
- Unfortunately, all the graphics. (Since I have no idea how to extract the game's graphics.)
(If anyone's interested in trying to extract the graphics, please go ahead?)

NOTE: Some parts of the game like the tutorials could not be translated perfectly, because we couldn't expand the space that was being used. So a lot of the game will be in slightly broken english. I tried to make it as understandable as possible in the space I had- so it should definitely be playable.

Special Thanks to:
DarthNemesis for creating a ChiTrans text insertion tool. It helped the project enormously

I won't put the link here, but if anyone wants to add to the translation, just ask.

Well technically its not complete, but almost everything you need to play and understand it has been translated

If my translators feel like it, I might post updated patches sometime as well.

Ah really? Well its great to see that people will actually be using the patch

Just so you dont get shocked, the tutorials are a bit engrish-y (not our fault..) but should still make sense

I don't know why you're having problems

You should just have to:

1) Unzip all the files from the ZIP into a folder

2) Run the provided xdeltaUI.exe

3) Where it says PATCH - click Open, find the file "Chi_EngPatch_v1.xdelta" and click OK

4) Where it says SOURCE FILE - click Open, find the DS rom (Doesnt matter what it's called) and click OK

5) Choose whatever you want to save the file as

6) Click the Patch button

-------------

If that process doesn't work, you might need to download the game again from another site.
OR try again on a different computer, if you have more than one?

Thanks for replying! Could it be my emu? I was using IDEAS but it was horrible so I used Desume instead and did what I was supposed to do for the patch but the result was the same. I also tried looking for other roms for other sites but i end up with the very same rom, lol! im running windows 7, could that be a possible problem?

I don't mean to bump old topics so please forgive me but I just wanted to give thanks for this translation and give my support. I followed this topic through suruz signature link and was curious about it. I love simulation games and I kept this at arms length because it was based off the manga/anime but I finally got down to reading it and it's absolutely adorable! I'm really looking forward to when it is complete and thank you dearly for working on it.

You're very welcome! Although as for this project being finished - just to be 100% honest, I'm not sure if it will ever happen... But MOST of the things you need to understand and play the game have been translated, plus most of the event scenes, and me and my translators have moved onto another project now (the first Spice and Wolf DS game)

Also, the other reason we probably won't be finishing this is the annoying space limit in almost EVERY part of the game - a lot of Item Names would need to be shortened considerably.. And all the descriptions and game text are in the overlay! (Which meant that we were limited to only 2 letters per Japanese character, and we weren't able to expand that space).

Of course, if anyone understands Japanese and would like to continue translating the game where we left off, please let me know. DarthNemesis had made a really nice tool for us, which extracted all the text - we only got this much translated thanks to him. I still have it somewhere if anyone needs it.

But long story short: the game is still very much playable... And it's definitely worth trying if you liked the anime or you like cute games
