Has anyone actually tried to use R4i Gold 3DS with the good old Phat DS? For whatever reason, the official page doesn't mention the original DS among the systems the cart is supposed to be compatible with. I understand that cart that works on DSL should also work on NDS, but the answer from someone with a first hand experience would be much appreciated.

Yes, i have formatted my sd card with Panasonic SD Formatter.
When i take only the files from 1.51b Kernel, without the newest wood, it should be run ?
I make's so, but nothing happens. First "Loading" then nothing happens.
Yes it should run.

You may not have seen my Edit so I'll explain it for you.

Download the latest version of wood and extract it onto your SDHC card.
Rename _DS_MENU.DAT to WOODR4.NDS
Download Kernel 1.51b and extract only _System folder and _DS_MENU.DAT

Your cart should now work with the 1.51b kernel and the latest version of Wood.
Now i done as you wrote, but allways the same error. At first "Loading" on the screen, then both screens are black.

I've used it on my DS Phat and it works perfectly.

I've done it on my r4ids.cn and it works perfectly so that leaves 3 possibilities.
1. User error
2. Fault with cart
3. Fault with SDHC card.

To make 100% sure that there is no user error I have created a file which includes 1.51b and Wood 1.42 which can be downloaded from here. Just format your SDHC card with Panasonic formatter and extract the archive to your SDHC card.

It seems strange that a www.r4ids.cn cart can load Wood but not the kernel so there could be a fault with the cart but TBH the easiest thing is to just use Wood.

As for a fault with your SDHC card all I can do is ask what make, size and class is it?

I downloaded your file, formatted the sd card with panasonic formatter, extract your file to card, but the problem is like before.
My SD Card is a Panasonic Micro SDHC 4 GB and i tried it with a SanDisk MicroSD 2GB.
The R4 Card is for my son, but i think i will use only the Wood Firmware, because there are only 9 days to xmas and no time to change the card.
Thank you very much for your help. Perhaps, i buy another R4Gold card after Xmas and perhaps this will run

Good Luck. I think the cart works better with just wood anyway as you can still install moonshell to give you the extra features that the 1.51b kernel offers it's just that you won't be able to return back to wood and have to do a hard reset.

There appear to be a faulty batch of www.r4igold.cn 3DS carts out there with the Dorasu icon that cannot load Wood properly. There is a fix on the website.
The special patch for those red - "Loading" stucked 3DS cards...(Dec.19th,2011)
11.gif

*Note: This special patch is only designed for those R4i Gold 3DS cards, which got a red text - "Loading" stucked on the bottom screen while click on "DORASU" icon, not for any other batch of cards....

The instruction included with the fix are as follows.
You should get a NDS Lite console(borrow one from others if you don't have one) and one any other flashcard(called "A" -like R4, TT, AK2, M3 or SupperDS two..)), which works properly on NDSL.

1.Download the latest WOOD R4 firmware from www.r4ids.cn and unzip it to the root directory of your tf card;

2.Copy Patch_R4iGold3DS_xmas_NDSL.nds to your tf card;

3.Just power your NDSL on and boot up Patch_R4iGold3DS_xmas_NDSL.nds with "A" card;
4.Take "A" card out of the NDSL;
5.Reinsert your broken R4i Gold 3DS card into the NDSL;

6.Press KEY_A and the updating process will begin;
7.You should keep your NDSL powered on during the updating process;
8.IF the result shows SUCCESS, it means you have updated your R4i Gold 3DS successfully and this card can work on DSi V1.4.3 and 3DS V2.2.0-4 and V3.0.0-5;

I purchased the r4i gold plus card becuase of this review. But it turns out I could use a bit of advice.

Id be grateful of some of you that own the card could take a look at my thread. http://gbatemp.net/t...27#entry4032227

Cheers.
Merry Christmas!
The R4i Gold Plus id by a different team. If you wanted to buy a R4i Gold cart based on this review you should have bought a www.r4ids.cn/www.r4idsn.com cart.

Unfortunately, I stumbled across a PCB picture of the new R4ids.cn cart, better known as the R4i Gold 3DS. I don't agree, or like, the much cheaper quality in the new revision of the R4i Gold 3DS. Take a gander, and tell me what you think. Caution, there's no longer an Actel chip. Take notice, this card has a "9" by the Gold teeth. This revision is most likely the reason for the stuck "Loading" people were encountering recently. Due to that issue an upgraded file was released and another revision is out, sporting an "A" where the "9" is on this card but its pcb is practically identical to the card pictured below. The cards with a "6" and "8" house the Actel chip design pictured in Rydian's review here.

I have one of these rev. 9 carts and it worked right out of the box with my DS Phat and DS Lite. Never had to apply any updates to make it load Wood. I didn't try to update the bootloader, though.

EDIT: I dont't think that the reason they came up with this new "A" revision has anything to do with the issue you're referring to, since they eventually released a patch to address the problem. If it were a hardware issue, then it wouldn't be possible to fix it with software updates. More likely, it has something to do with reducing production costs.

You have everything in reverse. What I suggested in my last post is a new revision of hardware was produced, causing firmware issues. By the way, hardware issues can be addressed through software. Let me explain, if your coding doesn't take your new hardware into account an issues can be raised. This is what I assume happened. But I wasn't referring to the "A" revision I was referring to PCB revision "9" that might of caused the issues. Its all there in my last post. If you read it slower you will see what I'm referring to. :)
