This happens every time when a game ties in with something homebrew-related especially since this is such an obscure title. The closest reasonably priced copy is in Antioch, so I'll pass for now. I hope other games can be used in the future though.

I have done so many random acts of kindness over the years I cant even remember them all, I am sure there are even some people here in the forum that can verify that I helped them with something in the past, such as help using a tool, help with ROM hacking, creating tools for the community, etc. Here are some more recent examples below.
  • After the owner of twitchplayspokemon asked for help with reading team information with a lua script in the NDS games and was turned away saying all the information is already public, go do it yourself. I took several hours out of my life to create a script to do what he wanted, testing, fixing bugs, and adding new features.
  • I made TradeCheck, a program that would read packet data from XY to show you the IVs of a offered pokemon so you wont get scammed with people offering you trash saying its a 5/6IV Pokemon.
  • After someone decided to read packet data from XY to show your opponents team information and what move they picked, I created a jammer program that spammed bogus information that the program would read to prevent the program from revealing your information.
  • When I heard that Pokegen was going to become a donation only program I starting making my own program as a free alternative. My program is pretty much complete, waiting for that day pokegen became donations only to be released, but since pokegen is still free it was never released.
  • I created A-Save a 3rd generation save editor, that made it super easy to get any pokemon or item onto your game.
  • When someone wanted help editing some sprites in heart gold, I went and made a program to unscrambled the images for them.

I'd nominate Kazo for a copy. If anything, he might make a pretty good use of it for some homebrew-related stuff (offline, no-subscription-fee PokeBank? :DDDD)

Edit: Had I read Smea's twitter more carefully last night and got a better picture of how the exploit will work, I would have hoarded a few more copies (at $3-5 each) and maybe hand them out to established homebrew devs later on. Damn hindsight is always 20/20, eh?

How I wish there were good deeds I did for members in this community, whether I have done any or not, I may never know. Knowing me, I probably never have. I'd like to think I did, but, you know.

I am just chiming in on one thing. I will not be selecting anyone. That is being left up to the rest of the GBATemp community.

When the exploit is released, by then I'm sure that everyone here will come to a decision. The point really was to hopefully inspire people to do NEW acts of good for others, specifically to offset the vultures trying to profit from someone else's hard work and contributions to the scene.

If you guys pick people whom are likely to use the exploit for further development, cool. If you pick people who pull off an awesome kind act, that's great, too.

I'm looking forward to as much more action to anecdotes as is possible. Worst that can happen is that you do something kind for someone else, and don't get a free game. I can't see any failure in that.

Why is everyone raving over an exploit which deliberately limits developer possibilities just to prevent piracy (which is already happening and will probably grow out of this exploit too) when there is already a full kernel exploit out there (and with prices as they are, Gateway will probably get cheaper than Cubic ninja)

it doesn't deliberately limit itself, the exploit is usermode.....that its, it never had the potential to load roms in the first place, also gateway currently only works on 4.x, this would allow users who updated to play homebrew, truth is i think the majority of people seem to just ignore this and think "yay i will have free roms soon".......give it a couple of weeks once it soaks in that you won't be getting free roms from cubic ninja and it will be back in the bargain bin and there will be one sad sap with 40 copies saying "I WILL MAKE MY FORTUNE SSSSSOOOOOONNNN!!!"

I am going to purchase at least one, and as many as three, copies of Cubic Ninja this evening.

Because I know that people on the internet are already hoarding copies, planning on profiting directly from smealum's work, without contributing anything to the scene, and by using his exploit for all the wrong reasons, I have decided to counterbalance that despicable behavior by doing something better.

Later this evening, when I am holding the actual games, I will post a photo of them, along with an invitation for anyone who wants the game to show us a random act of kindness from one gamer to another. Not a story that's already online; I want to incentivize people to DO something kind for someone else.

Show me your kindness, and I will send you Cubic Ninja for free.

Since I will obviously have a very, very limited quantity of these (three, to be exact), I will ask the members of the GBATemp community to decide whose act of kindness was the most awesome, and you guys get to decide the "winners".

I'll give it until the very day that the exploit is made publicly available. Then we will decide whose act of kindness was the most awesome.

Deal?

EDIT - After contacting all of my local GameStops, I have a total of three copies reserved, which I will be picking up this evening. You should expect proof to be posted here no later than 9PM, EST (GMT-5).

Big Ups Neo! Nice to see someone with a good heart, I'm feelin the love m8!

Yeah it's kind of silly. Demand isn't going to be that high, assuming most people understand what homebrew is. And the majority of people interested in this were already savvy to the 3DS scene, meaning they know they can just use a ROM instead. Crazy how fast word spreads, and greed with it. Ryu's post is all over several subreddits.

wow Neo Draven that's very nice of you to actually go the extra mile and get copies for someone else :-)
I was actually thinking, I will buy me a Nintendo eshop card today (not sure yet, 15 or 25€) and then buy all the themes I can get with it and convert them to .cia and upload them somewhere anonymously (lol so much for anonymously.... ... X.x)
just because I am so surprised, that noone is doing it despite having the tools for it... so either people with the tools are too greedy to actually BUY something or they do not want to share their purchases? I don't know :/ I think there are still only the zelda and the mario theme on the wild, right? :/
will be EU themes from me, btw

I actually decided to buy an even number, not an odd number, so I went for 30€, because let's face it... good themes cost 2€, bad themes 1€ and I wouldn't want to waste an Euro on a bad theme, if I bought 15 or 25, so I bought 2x15 instead lol
Wanted to use cearp 's AutoCIA tool for dumping the themes, but he took the link down, so I gotta wait for him to reupload it again
I currently have the free halloween cat theme, which hasn't been dumped yet I think (not everyone got a download code for that, so I guess it's still a good idea to dump it, too)
and with 32€ (still had 2 left from earlier purchases) I can get 16 themes, I think I will only do around 10 now and keep some money aside for the new themes on friday
so I am now accepting requests, which 10 themes to download and share ;-)
currently on the web should be the Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and the Jumping Mario Theme, so obviously I will not buy those, if they are already available
if there are more Theme dumps available, please tell me BEFORE I buy the same theme, no links to the download, just say, that it exists somewhere

Edit: oh and I will obviously not share the download links here, this would be against forum rules, I will hint to where to get the links though

Unfortunately I can't say I've done very many nice things for people in real life, however I do believe I've contributed a lot in several online communities. My main place is in the ROM Hacking community, specifically for Pokemon and GBA (Team Fail can attest to that). I've mostly done reverse engineering and I've done a lot to try and make research more open than it was before. I've also spent some time in a few smaller communities helping to reverse engineer things, like Lego Loco's proprietary compression format.

At this point, however, I'm looking to do some 3DS development. I'd like to make a GBA emulator, since that's kind of my strength at the moment, and if I were able to grab a copy off of someone that would be great. And of course I'll be keeping everything open with status updates as frequently as I can with school and all.

Here I am, just wanted to buy maximum of one. But I can survive without homebrews. I refuse to pay 40€ for a game that's maybe worth 15€ tops.
I recon once these copys gets sold and once the gaming websites stop spreading "OMG! This game is selling so much because of XXXXXX!" the market price will probably go down again.

You should give someone a free copy of the game provided that they promise to program a certain homebrew application.

Honestly right now it seems like thousands of people are getting the game hoping to play homebrew games and software while only a much smaller fraction of people that are capable of developing something are able to run the exploit while the select few are profiting big time on someone else's work.

I totally agree with that.
