So now that Nintendo seems to be banning public headers, I'm worried I'll get banned since I use a public header for when I go online in Animal Crossing. I tried using a header from a retail cartrage I have, but it corrupts the save even though the AC rom is already .3dz. I know that if you go from .3ds to .3dz the save is toast, but what about going from a public header to a private header? Is there any way to salvage the save or should I just keep the public header and not go online while playing?

You have to decrypt it with SaveDataFiler and reinject it to the edited ROM. Look here!

I have a legit Pokemon Y cart, but I only ever used a scene dump because there were issues running the game initially. Does this mean that I can now dump my own cart fresh, inject the header into my ROM, and expect it to work online? As long as I also decrypt and reinject the save that is? Or is there another reason it won't go online?

Oh, and I am using the latest update of Gateway 3DS. Roughly how long should this process take?

That will work. Just make sure you decrypt the save before patching the ROM and you reinject it afterwards. Or just inject it to your own ROM dump - no need to patch your scene dump actually.

How long it will take? No idea, depends on your SD card, I think. Shouldn't be more than a few minutes.

I'm a Sky user over here. What are the odds of someone dumping a private retail header just for me with a gateway? I've been out of the scene for a while, but I'm getting back to the swing of things now.

On Nintendo's own website they're stating you haven't accepted the 3DS Service User Agreement:

003-0300 - 003-0399

You have not yet agreed to the Nintendo 3DS Service User Agreement.
If you wish to use the online features of your Nintendo 3DS system, you must agree to the Nintendo 3DS Service User Agreement. To read and accept the Nintendo 3DS Service User Agreement, select "System Settings" from the HOME Menu, then choose "Internet Settings." Select "Other Settings," then "User Agreement."

Gonna ask here if there is more experience:

I just finished replacing all my ROM headers with a Madden NFL private header. All games I tried work online(MH3, MH4, MK7, SSB) except the Pokemon games, which throw the dreaded 002-0123 error when trying to connect online. I have tried all 3 chip manufacturers, not sure about anything else in the Chip ID. The file extension is .3dz so that much is also correct. I've heard some things about the size of the ROM from which it came being of importance, but MH4 which is 4GB connects fine, and my previous universal header was the public Kirby Triple Deluxe which is a 1GB ROM and everything, including Pokemon, worked fine.

What should I try?

I had no trouble changing the header of most of my carts, but what program would I need to use to decrypt/inject cart2 saves as suggested?

Search for "SaveDataFiler". I can't link it, because it's an official tool from Nintendo's devkit, but it's easy to find.

Look at this post. It describes the whole process for card 1 games. For card 2 games it's pretty much the same, but you won't need to copy/rename any saves on your SD card to make them compatible to SaveDataFiler (so it's even easier).

Oh, and if you already changed headers without decrypting the saves beforehand, you need to revert this! Otherwise you would just decrypt your corrupted saves.

I found a really good guide to walk me through it, but it has links so I guess I can't link to the guide either? It's on the Gateway-3DS blog.

It worked! The steps ended up being a bit different from that link, so here's what I followed: (I removed links, but if I am allowed to put any back in let me know and I will edit)

1. Update your Gateway 3DS Firmware version to V2.6 and emunand V8.1 to V9.2.
2.Download DevMenu.zip and then unzip it to TF card. (the Red Cart)
3.Download savedatafiler.zip and then unzip it to SD card.
4.Entry Gateway 3DS mode and run DevMenu.3ds.
5.Using crosskey "→" to go to Import and "↑↓ "to find savedatafiler.cia in SD card after entry DevMenu.3ds then press "A" to install.
6.There will be an icon
095859_59954581.png
after installation finished but do not run it. Just press "SELECT" to choose Pokemon rom and only read it.

7.Run the
095859_59954581.png
under the condition of the Pokemon icon showing up,there will be “User” “ExtData “ ”SD”3 interfaces.Choose "CTR Card" under "User" interface and then press Y so the archive file can be exported to SD card.

8.Insert your SD card into your PC.

CAUTION: The output save file is just a string of numbers so I did it one at a time so I wouldn't lose track of the saves

After backing up my original .3DS ROM I ran "Gateway_ROM_Patcher_v1.1", opened the ROM, selected the checkbox "Rename ROM extension to 3DZ" and selected "Import Header File" (I chose a game that was only 128 megabytes just to be sure, from a cart I own - not a public release) and clicked "Yes" when asked about adjusting size and yes again on media type (not all games asked about either or both) and then clicked apply.

I then put the modified ROM back on the Red Cart and went back into Gateway mode. Then I pressed "select" to choose the game I modified, but instead of playing it I went to
095859_59954581.png
and this time I went to the "SD" tab where the save file can be selected to be restored from. (interestingly, other save files also show up. No idea what would happen if you tried porting the save from one pokemon game to another) and when I loaded the .3DZ game everything works. The save shows up and loads fine.

Are you asking for someone with a Gateway to dump your cart for you?
