Oh ok. Thanks for the clarification! So why are there two formats? Do you know? If a .3dz is more "trimmed" why would we use a .3ds?
.cia: Packaged files that installs it into your 3DS so the games works like an EShop game. Consider it similar to APK files of android or installing programs for your PC so you don't need the CD afterwrods.
.3ds: rom files. Need another means to access the files like a flash cart. In some PC programs, you can only access the program via the CD, even after installing it to your PC.

Hi,
i have a question. I followed the complete guide on https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-2-(Downgrading)
including part 5 but i could not backup my save games on the beginning of Part 4 since they were on the other SD-CARD :(

is there a way to get the savegames back ?
I have the old sd-card with Nintendo 3DS Folder and the long Number (i think this is the NNID ?) which changed everytime i used tinyformat ?

When i copy it to the actual SD-Card i will not be recognized, it seems they are decrypted or i dont know which of the 4 directories is the latest used one :(

Is it possible to create an emunand from backup of part 2 from the guide and then backup all savegames and restore on the cfw sysnand ?

Hey, can someone explain me whats the difference between emuNand with MenuHax and Arm9loaderhax ? I'm seeing that this new form of exploit has gain some popularity and, as far I know, it's kinda dangerous to set it up. Currently I'm using emuNand with MenuHax and reiNand CFW on my New3DS and I was wondering if worth the risk to change to this "new" exploit.

I'm asking here because I can't find a topic that explains it properly and it seems to be some disagreement betwen the emuNand users and Arm9loaderhax users when speaking of security.

-It is better than emuNand ? If it is, why ?
-There's some risk in using it ? I've seen some people using it with sysNand and updating sysNand, this seems a little dangerous to me.
-There's any chance for Nintendo to discover it and block it by some update ?

Ps: I've seem some Arm9Hax users saying that it is better because you save some space in your SD card, but since I have a 64gb class 10 SDXC I really don't care about the space... And I think that you can always buy a new card or remove a few games if you run out of space, so this argument is bullshit .

Arm9loaderhax is a form of exploit, it's not in the same category as emuNAND, so you can't compare the two. It can be compared to Menuhax though, as Menuhax is also an exploit.

Arm9loaderhax (A9lh) is currently the best exploit available for the 3DS. It has a 100% bootrate, and negates the need for emuNAND (emuNAND can still be used with it, but you do not need to use emuNAND anymore for firmware updates). Due to it being launched before sysNAND is launched, it also gives you the ability to unbrick your 3DS without a hardmod.

A9lh is better than Menuhax. As I wrote earlier, A9lh has a 100% bootrate. It also is much faster than Menuhax, as Menuhax relies on sysNAND being booted (Menuhax relies on an exploit in the theme settings).

There is no risk in using A9lh. There is some risk in setting it up, but most (if not all) bricks seem to occur due to user error. Updating sysNAND while using A9lh is safe, as the signature patches are applied before sysNAND is booted. This is why it doesn't matter if you're above 9.2 when using A9lh. A9lh again, also gives you the ability to recover from bricks without a hard mod if anything ever does go wrong.

I don't think Nintendo can block it with an update. Nintendo's updates are applied to sysNAND. A9lh is booted before sysNAND, so the updates won't touch it.

A9lh does save you space (approximately 1GB depending on if you have an O3DS or an N3DS) on your SD card. It's not a ton of space, but to users with smaller SD cards, it does make a difference.

A couple of questions:
1. What would happen if I formatted my N3DS before downgrading? Would I be able to update my emuNAND (if everything went smoothly) or sysNAND (if something went wrong) and relink my NNID?
2. How do I rebuild the databases on N3DS before/after downgrading?

I have one of the Pokemon 20th anniversary 3DS's with the 10.2.0-27U firmware. I've read that you could use browserhax and a few other methods to get a cfw to get to the homebrew launcher. I already have a 128gb card formatted to fat32 to do all of this, I just need help in pointing me to the most efficent(quickest) way to load up a cfw to get the homebrew launcher. I haven't messed with Nintendo consoles since the Wii and "jailbreaking" it, been messing with android devices more for the past few years, so I know how to use command to get things done (like I had to do so while formatting my sdcard to fat32 to be detected by my 3ds)

But yeah, just need a point in the right direction to start on this.

You're a little confused. Cfw doesn't load up the homebrew launcher. All it does is allow you to gain access into a modified sysnand or emunand depending on what you use. The homebrew launcher is used to load up cfw though (inefficient, but works). You'll understand once you use it.

If you want to use cfw, you're going to have to downgrade first. First off, follow this tutorial to get homebrew set up. Once you do that, go to "Part 2- Downgrading" which can be found on the right hand tab of the tutorial I linked you.

If you need help, just ask.

1. Yes, you can relink your NNID later from system settings (of course you need to remember your user/password/email)
2. You will need to go to the "Nintendo 3DS/<id0>/<id1>/dbs/" directory on your SD card and create empty "title.db" and "import.db" files. Then, go to System Settings -> Data Management -> Nintendo 3DS -> Software on your 3DS and let it repair the database files.

I didnt mean to mention cfw like that, was dealing with someone that kept trying to lowball on a macbook pro i have on craigslist, so i was kinda typing what came to my head first instead of thinking bout it a little more haha. I meant to say to point me in the direction to homebrew launcher, THEN downgrading. lol

So are sysNAND and emuNAND the same console with or without the same serial number by Nintendo standards? It says you can't transfer your NNID to another console without doing a system transfer, and I really don't want to lose all my stuff.

We could say they are the same console with different setups.
That's one of the reasons you can inject a sysnand backup in your emunand and viceversa

So I can format, downgrade, and re-link on emuNAND once everything's set up? Triple-checking because I don't want my stuff lost in the Nintendo void, attached to a console that doesn't exist. (Came SUPER close to it last time.)

If you can format, relink your NNID and redownload from eshop on sysnand, then you can do the same on emunand.

But anyway, you can wait until some other user confirm it, just in case

Is there any way to run DS Homebrew on a 3DS? I ask because I really want to play Aperture Science DS (I know there's portal3DS but it's so glitchy I rarely use it, and ASDS is probably more stable). I have 9.2, emuNAND etc.

are the savegames on sdcard also located under Nintendo 3DS/<id0>/<id1>/dbs/ and decrypted ?

or can they be copied only to the new directorystructure if i forgot earlier to backup when installing al9h

how can i check which is the actual used <id0>/<id1> -> i have 4 directories under "Nintendo 3DS" ?
