I know this must be getting old, but does anyone have the current status of the translation ?
Your guess is as good as mine.

In 3 weeks it'll be 1 year since JamRules last posted in this thread.

Weyu, who's poured many hours into this project, has lost contact with him.

Weyu is optimistic and doesn't seem to think it's a big deal, but as someone who's followed the emulation\translation scene since the early Zophar's era, the track record for projects that stall for 1 year or more before release is on the wrong side of 50%. As a point of reference, Coldbird's translation ended up the same way. And when considering community track records, one must also consider the track record of that individual (JamRules). How many projects has he seen to completion?

That said, the dude can do whatever the F he wants. We're not his keepers. Just don't count on this project finishing at this point.

Jam was playing EDF 4.1 at the end of May, so I presume he's still alive and well. I'll send him a message to let him know that people are missing him.

Hey man, it's been a while, good to hear from you. I've done everything I can to contact him and I'm sure he already knows people are looking for him.
Why he's not responding only he knows, and I don't want to speculate about it here. But if you can reach him, that would be great.

Last I heard from him was mid-late Feb and he didn't show any indication that he was burned out, I was honestly surprised that he just went off the radar.
So while it's been a long time since he posted here, he hasn't been gone for nearly a year.
I wouldn't say I'm being overly optimistic. Like I said before, I just hope that he's taking a break and that he'll be back eventually.
I've put a lot of time in this yes, there were times I'd spent entire weekends doing nothing but translating and checking my work in the game. But so has Jam: he's worked on almost every part of the game.
From the various text windows to UI windows alterations (there are a ton of different kinds), text insertion, swapping around UI items (to account for the change in language), image replacement, the various types of NPC text, UI position tweaks (to make the UI more accessible since some parts were poorly done) and a ton of other stuff.
Rather than just a simple text insertion, a lot has been done to make the UI better than the original game and many things had been changed to accommodate to the translation.

What I'm trying to say with the above is, this wasn't a quick attempt and quit when it didn't work, he'd put in a lot of work in this as well and we're so close to completion.
So I'd be very surprised if he doesn't come back at all.

But yes, this is one of the things that plagues free fan translations. There is no obligation to see things through and many projects that were started enthusiastically end up abandoned when they turn out to be more effort or more frustrating than initially anticipated. I'm not saying that this is what happened here (as said, I have no idea what his motivations are), but let us hope that this project is on the right side of that 50%.

Sorry if this is rude to ask but do you have a backup plan

It's not rude, I've been thinking about it myself too.
I'm just the translator and QC person, I've had very little to do with the tech side of things— that was entirely Jam.
Hopefully MrFwibbles above can contact Jam, or that Jam comes back by himself eventually, since I do want to finish this with him.

If he stays MIA for a much longer period and it doesn't appear he will be back, I'll start a new thread asking for help. I really hope it doesn't come to that though, because Jam is the one who knows the ins and outs of this game.
And considering how complex the game apparently is to work with, probably only the most experienced could handle the task.

And as a very last resort, if truly nothing can be done to further the project, I'll release the latest test version I have now, so people can play through the story at least and haven't waited for nothing.
But that is only when every other option has been exhausted, so please don't ask for it.

That's about everything I have to say on the subject right now.

Good considerations to both sides. In the end there's a lot to get over simply waiting, so I'll be here some more.

JamRules cut off communication with this thread nearly 1 year ago and now you for the last 4 months. It may not add up to the 1 year absence I described, but it's still an alarming pattern of disinterest that dates back just as far. Hopefully JamRules is fine and decides to update you on his status so you know what YOUR next move will be sooner rather than later.

And I just wanna say that you're one patient MFer Weyu so I really hope this works out for ya :)

Btw MrFwibbles, thanks for the EDF 4.1 mention. I had no idea there was a new version of the game out, and even better, discovering that it was ported over to the PC so I can play it.

Don't forget that he's abbandoned also the sol trigger "ship" whan the project is completed translation side!
Now, knowing that he's active on other sites and don't answer to help requests from his translators , for me,is a really bad sign and a big missing of respect..

Good luck for the completion guys! Hopefully all your spended time and work will be not wasted...

Still hoping JamRules comes back or updates on what is going on. At least if he really is done, if he could at least release the most up to date version with his tools so someone else could possibly take up the mantle. I know that I am still very anxious to play a translated version of the game.

Reading all the posts everyday and visiting this forum everyday is kinda make me worry, i have been following this project since 2015, i know there are a lot of people does more than me..

I'm currently playing original PSP2 and have spending more than 1300+ hours into this game, altough i never been playing online (i know online would be more fun) and pretty much i getting all weapons i want except Alchemist Shadow and World of Guardians which is arguably the hardest weapon to obtain, i've done more than 200+ run MAX 4 and killing a lot of red BUGGES (rare enemy) and haven't get AS or WoG and planning to start infinity but seeing the project is still haven't done so i decided to continue to play PSP2 while waiting the project but till now we even haven't heard anything from JamRules we don't even know if the project is still going or not, i always thinking should i start infinity or wait until the project is done,

and yet i haven't give up about getting AS and WoG, i want to get them in PSP2 before move to infinity if i still have the desire (it's really frustrating and boring playing solo) infinity would make them easier to get and less frustrating/boring.

Back to main topic
Jam disappear in both infinity and sol trigger project but if MrFwibbles statement true then it seem Jam like abandon the projects i know he might be busy but he could at least tell the current situation.

I'm going to try and be very optimistic about this. I hope that on July 6, 2017, this project's 3rd anniversary, JamRules will be showering us with whatever news to all of us waiting in the dark. :ninja::ninja::psp::gun::hrth: :grog:

I have a question and it may be a dumb question or it may have already been answered and I missed it, but it occurs to me that PSP2 was released in America and is fully translated, would it be possible (especially since PSP2 is apart of PSP2i) to take the files from PSP2 and use those to translate at least the first half of PSP2i?

Also that should help in translating most of the items and things, ya know?

Honestly, I would have been content with everything translated without the story translated. The story is pretty bad anyway so I just stopped caring. The gameplay and how deep the class system can be is what hooked me. I just wish the translator wouldn't have bitten off more then they could chew. That's how these projects tend to fail. Just get the basics done, release subsequent updates until the menu, items and quest names have been translated. I remember Monster Hunter Freedom 2 was done before it came to the states.

Translation was finished, it just wasn't inserted before the programmer stopped (bugs & finishing).

The Sol Trigger guys gave in, so who knows. So far nothing changed.
