Something that peaked my curiosity is what some folks do when there short on cash and need a bite to eat to at least not die of starvation. Most usually go for something like ramen but I was wondering what some of you go for besides that. My take at a budget meal is a bit of rice, and to add a bit of flavor I either add soy sauce or I add lemon juice and lemon pepper and/or normal salt.

Just hypothetical, I'm not actually in a tight situation on money right now.

Poor people are fat in my country.

But in all seriousness, I have been being extremely cheap with my food last year. A loaf of bread is only like two or three dollars. Eggs are a few dollars for a dozen. Rice is cheap as heck. Flour is also very cheap.

Basically, you can buy the essentials for almost nothing and cooking a lot of basic food is very cheap to make.

Depending on your budget...

$10 could get you (one of the options, not all of them):
►Subway footlong + Subway softdrink
►10 dollar burgers
►10 Spicy Chickens
►A lot of instant noodles
►A few food items from Walmart such as popcorn chicken or hot dogs

$5 could get you (same as before, one of the options):
►5 Spicy Chickens
►5 dollar burgers
►4for4 deal at Wendys (or a 4for5 at burger king
►Few instant noodles
►A few food items from Walmart (less items than with $10)
►6 inch at Subway
►Food from those cart-shops that those people wearing old clothes push (if you know what I mean)

<$5 could get you:
►A few or one of the instant noodles
►1 or more Spicy Chickens
►1 or more dolar burgers
►possible 4for4 or 4for5
►Canned food (Such as tuna)

There's certainly a lot of food you can buy and there's much more than this list. Hope this helps!

Chef Boyardee. it's like $1.20 a can and contains all the protein you need. It doesn't go bad, and since it's pasturized it doesn't even need to be microwaved (which is a good thing as microwaving doesn't improve the taste and makes the pasta fall apart). The downside is it's acidic so if you eat it too many days in a row you start finding fresh blood on your toilet paper and get itchy as hell there.

If you're on an ultra tight budget it is important to still get some proteiniron or else you're going to be severely tired all the time. But, meat is expensive. What to do?

Eat liver. It costs less than a quarter of regular meat and has more proteiniron so you don't have to eat as much.

Also, if you have a back yard consider growing spinach, tomatoes, potatoes and other easy things. Once a big tomato patch gets going it is very hard to kill and you'll be able to harvest for years and years, all for free (except for occasional manure and watering).

Cheap canned tuna and grilled cheese. Two bucks for the bread loaf, 45 cents per can of tuna, and about another two dollars for some decent cheese. Cheap, easy, good. Another good one is 60 cents for some green beans, two bucks for one of those boxed stuffing mixes, and tuna again. If you're feeling fancy, grab a small thing of mayo, make a sorta casserole of it, which is pretty delicious. There's the staple of ramen + egg, as well. And if you're willing, coupons can get some really solid deals on regular stuff, if you put in the effort to find them. Haven't had any of these in ages, though, so I'm not 100% sure I could easily go back to eating that stuff daily these days.

Baked potato.
Potato is cheap and nutritious.
Potato is good.
Praise potato.
I dunno about nutritious. Pretty much all starch. And I say that as a person of Irish descent who loves potatoes be it mashed, baked, twice-baked, steamed, fried, whatever.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
