I'm using a Seagate backup Slim Plus USB3 ext. HDD and it works fine.

Yes, but it will operate in USB 2.0 mode.

Yeah since ps3 uses 2.0 ports you will only get 2.0 speeds

Because i recon i bought one about 2 years ago and it was usb3.0 and it didn't work
