I have seen a few shady sites that offers various methods for downgrading but I'm not really sure if they are legit. Anyone knows something?

They're not.

To add more info, it's currently impossible. Don't despair yet, though, as an exploit for 5.xx has been announced fairly recently. It may be a while before anything becomes of it, but it's sure to happen. Unlike some exploit finders/developers, @vpikhur laid out quite a bit of information allowing other people to create HENs for 5.xx, instead of just sitting on the information.

I assume it's better to wait for real homebrew on 5.xx instead of downgrading. I think downgrading is always pointless (beside the old PS3 days, which was an exception.)
Perhaps a *cough Backup Loader *cough* too, but who knows.

I have do alot of modding in my day, and i have VERY rarely seen any kind of downgrading, it does happen, but VERY unlikely in my opinion, i wouldnt hold your breath. However 5xx exploits were just confirmed, so you may not have to hold your breath to long.

does that mean it is ready for running the needed program to install pkgs?
will it be ready for debugsettings? :O
is a soon release possible?
No.
No.
Maybe? I left my crystal ball in my other pair of pants. We just have to wait for a dev to do something with it.

It basically details what the exploit is and how one might access it. We still need someone to make the actual homebrew or modchip (if that's necessary) that takes advantage of this exploit to allow you run unsigned code and install "backups." I've been on this forum for a decent while and I've seen some exploits taken advantage of within days and others that take quite a while to actually do anything with. It all depends on how energetic the people are. I imagine it won't be too long until something comes of this.

The rest exploit seems to be the most promising for a persistent hack and leading to a real CFW. Hopefully we will see a release on that.

PS, that is not to take away from the incredible work being implemented right now. I find it very amazing how this scene is starting out with the cooperation, sharing and people jumping in to help each other. Very excited in the tone being set thus far!!

Just wondering : is it possible to "bountysource" an exploit development project? Even if hacking is illegal there are some legitimate purposes for exploiting one's console like running homebrew applications or media players. I am sure people can easily deposit 500$ or more if needed by the exploit authors.

While I'm sure they would appreciate the efforts (and anyone wanting to donate to anyone that releases anything--please contact them directly and do so!!! They deserve it!!), anyone looking for cash for their work would likely be looking for a consulting gig as a security consultant directly for Sony. Those positions garner a fairly decent salary and I doubt we would raise anywhere near the amount necessary.

What a true scene is about is sharing and progressing, just like the 4.05 community is doing and coming together. It's not about money. It's about working together against the corporation and respecting each other when a major corp is dictating to us what we can do with hardware we purchased and showing them that sort of attitude towards us as consumers will not be tolerated. There is a pride and a respect that no money can buy enabling stuff that we have been locked out of and accomplishing tasks just because of the joy of overcoming that challenge. That is what a scene is all about and it's very exciting to see that returning in this day and age.

Don’t trust any of those sites all BS I would say if it’s not on GBA is not real. Such as the 5.x.x exploit hopefully we get a release from it.

Downgrading would be pointless. To be able to downgrade the PS4 would require a hack that simply put would make the need to downgrade non existent as you would already have the same permissions on the firmware you're trying to downgrade from as you would on the firmware you are trying to downgrade To. And even with a kernel exploit it's not enough to downgrade the system software (without bricking).

that comment is a little short-sited. For years we had to and still have to downgrade ps3's to be able to use cfw....

Actually it's not short sighted at all. The measures in place to prevent downgrading would require a hack of the boot loadeboot loader to be able to bypass. If you have boot loader it won't matter what firmware you are using as you will have kernel lvl code execution already. Therefore downgrading will be absolutely useless unless the user has a specific desire to be on that firmware to test something or what have you. I can link to the information on the wiki that confirms my statement if you wish but it is what it is.
