Seeing the song I thought it best to do a retrospective, however 10 years is much too much effort so going with just 2008 instead.

Jackass: The Game for NDS. Truly a wonder.

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin also for NDS. *pours beer for the fallen*

Devil May Cry 4... oh dear.

Conflict: Denied Ops. A bad co-op game. So much so my friend and I gave up on it... and if you know how much I like co-op games that it saying something.

Pimp My Ride Wii. Surely second only to Jackass the game.

Anno 1701: Dawn of Discovery for NDS. While some knew of anno before this it was still a surprise hit and marked Anno's rise into notoriety.

Army of Two. Very silly but actually quite liked this one.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl... and it was going so well.

Mario Kart Wii... and we are going downhill. We also saw the non leaked PC version of Assassin's Creed appear as well.

The World Ends with You NDS. Weeaab

Grand Theft Auto IV. I kind of missed this and ended up playing the expansion pack double release.

Ninja Gaiden II X360. If only I had known how bad things would get following this.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots PS3. Another game I missed but probably should include for professionalism reasons. I know technically I missed Alone in the Dark, Haze, LostWinds, Persona 3 FES in English and Rune Factory 2 but eh.

Braid appeared on XBLA.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky. Whoo.

Don't believe the hype because next we have Spore.

Drawn to Life: SpongeBob SquarePants Edition

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

Eternal Sonata. This is one of my big three things that really got me back into RPGs.

Civilization IV: Colonization. Good stuff.

Mega Man 9. A lot of hype for this one, said hype and silliness would later be eclipsed by Mighty Number 9 but let us not go there yet.

World of Goo.

Dead Space. I am told this is an important game so I guess it is here.

Saints Row 2, time to break out of the mould.

Golden Axe: Beast Rider. Some tell me it is an underappreciated title if you can look past it being nothing like Golden Axe of the 16 bit era.

X3: Terran Conflict. Probably the last real space sim for a while.

Far Cry 2

Fallout 3

Fable II

LittleBigPlanet

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3

Ninjatown. A nice little tower defence/defense title for the DS.

Sacred 2 Fallen Angel. How I miss you good co-op dungeon crawlers.

Mirror's Edge

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

Call of Duty: World at War, I am not sure how done to death World War 2 was for games at this point or if it counted as relatively fresh again.

Left 4 Dead

Tomb Raider: Underworld

Chrono Trigger for NDS. The legendary game had not aged well, even with the tarty graphics.

Prince of Persia because naming is hard.

Burnout Paradise I think is also somewhere in there.

Because I want to end on a high note then Skate 2 would appear early next year.

Anyway and people try to tell me the PS4 and xbone have amazing libraries -- this one year probably beats out the entire lifetime of them.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think only the red mario kart edition phat was v5
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
