How to play Diablo 1 online in 2019
Hey guys first tutorial expect a few updates here and there.(P.S. Thank you Darkadvocate#6282 and Tristram#1609 for posting what you would need to do to get this all working, don't annoy them on Discord ask me if you need help with this.)
Have you ever wanted to play Diablo 1 with your friends in 2019? Do you own the disc and don't want to pay for Diablo 1 again on GOG?(tbh you should $10 isn't all that much)
What you will need
1. the GOG exe (least legal, least buggy, requires a no cd patch) or the Devilution exe (more legal, but slightly more buggy, doesn't require no cd patch)
2. Admin abilities to change the battlenet gateway in regedit
3. Diablo CD
4. The Diablo 1.09 update.(Not the 1.09b update, that was only needed for win nt 4.0 if i'm correct)
4. A brain
Now for the steps
1. Install Diablo Retail (not the demo/spawn version) from your CD and remember your install location.
2. Update Diablo to 1.09.
3. copy your diabdat.mpq from your cd to your Diablo 1 install folder
4. Run the game once and go to play online, you should get an error about ports but just ignore that.
5. Change out the exe for either the GOG exe or Devilution exe
6. open up regedit and go to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Battle.net\Configuration\Battle.net, Look for Battle.net gateways and open that and remove all text placed in the reg key and replace it with this:

7. Press ok and exit regedit.
8. Run the game and you should be good to go, see you on the hunt to destroy the Lord of Terror.
F.A.Q.
Q: Help, after all of this hard work, Battlenet gives me the port error!
A: Try disconnecting from battlenet then logging back in, if that doesn't work you will need to open your ports.
Q: Can I donate money to you?
A: If by donating money to me you mean buying a copy from GOG yea i'm fine with that heres my paypal , totally not the GOG link.
Q: Is there a discord server for legit play of D1?
A: Yea there is, here.
Q: Can I ruin the experience of other players and cheat?
A: Reconsider using a computer thanks.
