Nintendo Switch firmware 9.1.0 released

switch.jpg

And, after the 3DS got its recent system update, this time it looks like it's the Switch's turn. Firmware 9.1.0 has been released by Nintendo for all regions and the changelog states it's meant to fix an issue with the colour animation not showing correctly when attaching a Joy-Con to the console... alongside with the usual stability. However, there may also be something else under the hood, as @SciresM has warned that TrustZone might have received an undocumented change, so current CFWs may break if you install the update.

Ver. 9.1.0 (Released December 4, 2019)

General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience, including a solution for the following:

  • Resolved an issue where the color animation was not displaying correctly when attaching a Joy-Con controller to the Nintendo Switch console.

Needless to say, given those premises, it may be best to avoid updating for the moment if you're running a CFW or if you wish to mod your console. Not much else is known at the time of writing - this post will be updated with any useful hacking and homebrew-related info.

EDIT: For devs (and the curious), a summary of the TrustZone changes by SciresM found in FW 9.1.0 is now available here.

EDIT 2: SX OS, Atmosphère and Hekate have all been updated to support firmware 9.1.0 since then.

It can work fine but it won't until Atmosphere / SXOS updates their CFW to work with sysNAND 9.1.

emuNAND can be whatever version, since its emulated.

your system nand needs to be 9.0.1 or under as of today AFAIK to even load emuNAND.

My Emunand works. Sysnand 9.1. Emunand 9.0.1. SXOS. I'm not sure about booting directly to CFW though, as I use emunand exclusively for Homebrew and such, and keep my sysnand clean for online.

for some reason, when I updated, the system rebooted to high-pitched static followed by messed up sound effects on the home screen. resetting the system seems to have fixed it, but what could have happened?

Warning: my joy-cons only display their original colours! If you use the app to change colours it does not show them anymore.
Oh shit, for real? If so I hope CFW can fix this at some point.

:ph34r:Any hope for an improved SD-Driver?
No, Nintendo won't fix it because it doesn't often cause problems for official software, only for homebrew. Ignore the people saying there's no problem, they've just been lucky so far.

Since I'm not an idiot (all of the time) I'll just continue enjoying puzzle quest for the umpeth time. Switch save at 60hrs+.
I am scared to check my playtime. But lately Evoland refracted me, which is good I guess. Anyway PQ is addictive, like crazy. Whats your lvl?

Data Corruption. But I don‘t know what’s the real cause. Some people blame Nintendo, other ones claim it’s not. I’m confused

Nintendo didn't follow spec when implementing the exFAT driver. Homebrew devs followed spec. The solution to fix the problem would be for the homebrew devs chose to fix the compatibility by implementing the spec Nintendo used or if Nintendo chooses to go back and use the actual spec. You can blame Nintendo for going offspec or blame the homebrew devs for not using the spec Nintendo used. Your choice.

Per the emulation developers mindset the proper thing to do would be to implement compatibility with whatever Nintendo did and not blame the fact your stuff isn't compatible with Nintendo based on the fact you didn't use the spec Nintendo did.

The "work around" in the meantime is if you're a CFW user to not use exFAT and use FAT32.

you can update your games offline yourself with nsp file updates. You don't need Nintendo to update your games unless its an online only game
Where to get these nsp updates for your games? Google my friend or the sites you been getting pirated stuff from.
Yeah, that answer had nothing to do with my question at all.
I already found out that the new firmware comes with new crypto.
So unless we get Custom Firmware support for 9.1.0 we cant run anything signed with the new keys.

Maybe a hardware mod hack will came around or something, what do you guys think, besides the logical solution to risk and buy one in eBay?
