A long time ago, in 1945, there was a book that had just released, which became popular due to its satirical take on politics and its use of the animal world to create an allegory of certain ruling systems used throughout the world. That novel was George Orwell's Animal Farm, which has since become a staple piece of literature in many classrooms. Now, 75 years later, that book is getting a video game based on it. Orwell's Animal Farm is a story-based game developed by Nerial, known for their prior work on the Reigns series, where you'll be able to interact with the world from the novel by choosing how to rule your animal-based republic.

The game is set for a release later this year sometime in the fall, to celebrate its source material's 75th anniversary, and will be available on mobile devices and Steam.

The whole thing reminds me of I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream.

This game was amazing and horrifying.

The audiobook was great too - voiced by the author.

Wish we could get a re-release for Switch.

Never studied Animal Farm, myself, in high school; I believe we covered Lord of the Flies instead.
As a result, I have only the vaguest understanding of what Barnyard is about, whereas even now I remember most of Duke of the Buzzers.

I'd love to see the Left lose power; I cannot stand Progressive attitudes, since it's actually regressive towards men and white people and non-LGBTWTFTMI+ people.
Like, sure, give homosexuals equal rights, and improve the relations behind "blacks" and "whites" - just don't make it your entire persona and identity, y'know? No need to spout rhetoric where it doesn't belong, or use violence or threats against the "oppressors" or "majority" or whatever. Also, don't belittle people on the Right - or Neutral - or those who are cis, white, and/or male. Don't try to hide your own prejudices behind calling others prejudiced, or that your bigotry is less than the bigotry of others - you're still bigoted and prejudiced, and probably even more so than the persons you accused!

I'm also not a fan of the Conservatives, either - "religion" needs to be revealed as the millennia-old cults they are, and shut down. I'm Australian, so I have no experience with guns, other than that we've not had a single school shooting or similar in ages - so maybe taking away guns is a good idea?

I just want Progressive attitudes and ideas to be seen as the horrific, censorship-happy, rights-denying, prejudice-filled, presumption of innocence-denying scum they are.

I can't imagine it's going to be easy to adapt this into a game. What it has going against it is that this is a well known book, and one whose drama is secondary to it's political stance. Nonetheless I'm intrigued.

Adding on to games based on novels, MGSV was stealthily based on Moby-Dick, and Spec Ops The Line was based on Heart of Darkness. And I don't know where else I can share that STALKER is based on the Tarkovsky film Stalker

Isn't the novel more explicitly anti-totalitarian, with Orwell himself claiming it as such? It was never really positioned as "anti-left" or "anti-right" - if anything, a lot of stuff in the novel can be interpreted as pretty left-leaning by modern standards.

Ugh...that trailer managed to lower my expectations from "interested" to "it better has a shitton of good user reviews". Animal farm is - you guessed it - a story about animals living in a farm. The trailer shows just a bit of landscapes and some condensed storyline THAT DIRECTLY GIVES AWAY THE ENDING. Granted, the "all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others" quote is probably more known than the rest of the book, but still...the whole narrative of the book is that the initial slogan (all animals are equal) continuously shifts to mark the shift from the pigs from the oppressed (like all the other animals) to the oppressors (acting exactly like humans in the end). Meaning: all sense of story arc is already tossed directly out of the window.

This book is more like an anti-socialism propaganda.

It's actually a satire on communism.

Just because the alt right sees communists everywhere doesn't mean that they still exist, let alone hold any power. Even Russia is a far stretch from the Soviet Union.

I enjoyed reading Animal Farm a few years ago but I can't really tell much from the trailer alone. Not being able to see comments or the likes and dislikes kinda scares me a bit but I'll wait and see.
