Nintendo 3DS gets a new firmware update for version 11.14.0-46

dims.jpg

2020 hasn't been the most stable year, but at least Nintendo is hard at work making sure that above all else, the Nintendo 3DS is the most stable thing in your life during these trying times. The system has just received a brand new firmware update, the first of 2020, to be exact, bringing the revision number to 11.14.0-46. Currently, the yls8 page shows us that a few changes were made regarding the web browser, NATIVE_FIRM, and more. The official changelog from Nintendo says the oh so popular phrase you've come to love:
  • Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.
Considering the random nature of this update, and the first few initial claims of those that took the plunge already, you might want to hold off on updating for right now, if you value having homebrew on your console. Reports state that Luma3DS is crashing, and that BrowserHax has been patched.

Surprised they are even putting any updates they are no longer making. Guess they want to keep their systems as stable as possible before they end their support.
This update was likely "to tie up loose ends" when the 3ds bounty program ended. There was a flurry of reports in the last two weeks that were probably addressed in this update. Hopefully, it will be smooth sailing from here given the system is almost 10 years old.

useless fyi, 11.13 lasted 350 days, beating 11.6's record of 273 days lasted.

I guess there isn't a way to bypass Luma and log into normal FW, right? I stupidly updated and am now locked out

you should of backed up NAND and then restored to it.

Just checked and you can still connect and play games online on the last firmware prior to this one's release. Literally no need for anyone to rush and update at this point.

I thought you can only find people online with the same version as you?

That might well be true, but there is likely a huge portion of players still on the last version at this moment, and anyone with cfw would be smart to stay there for the time being. So again, no need to rush to update at this time.

Thank you! I found a tutorial and got it booted into native firm. Never knew this was possible
That's part of the "safety test" detailed in The Guide for uninstalling CFW. But it is definitely not without its problems.
https://gbatemp.net/threads/about-removing-b9s-and-the-safety-test.541718/

so this update is literally nothing but a trap for people stupid enough to update without thinking while using CFW
If it makes thousands of people all over the Internet scream that "cfw bricked my 3ds11!!!1!" and discourages people from installing it, then Nintendo wins, I reckon.

I still have my $3 copy of Cubic Ninja buried away somewhere, just in case of the insane possibility that it may one day be one of, if not the, only ways to still hack a 3DS in the future.
I expected as long as ninjahax works, then at least Freakyhax will keep working as well.

On that note, I eagerly await news as to whether this will require a new otherapp.bin . On non-European units, it has lasted since 11.7 so far. (Some people say "*hax can be broken by system updates!" but it will have endured two Luma-breaking updates if this doesn't break it.)

Switch the switch to resolve your issue
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigArnold, sorry but i cant, i dont have a switch. also what k3nv2 says is a joke
  • B @ BigArnold:
That's what I figured. I put a post up in a forum but no one seems to replying to posts there. I also don't what this chat is attached to.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    General chat as it implies
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigArnold, try posting in the "switch noob paradise" thread
  • B @ BigArnold:
That's where I put it. But like I said other people's posts from a day or two ago have no responses. I'm not sure if the chat is part of the Nintendo forum that I'm on or a part of the website as a whole.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigArnold, part of the website as a whole
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    then try making a thread
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
wait you are too new to be able to do that
  • B @ BigArnold:
That's fine. I'll find my way.

@BigArnold you put the fusee or hekate.bin in the hekate/ payloads folder, or use app to push the payload to switch while its in rcm mode

  • B @ BigArnold:
The problem is is that TegraGUI isn't detecting my Switch despite it being plugged in and in RCM or maintenance mode.

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Did you click install driver inside the tegra app.
  • B @ BigArnold:
I did all of that stuff and it seemed successful but still nothing. The only thing different from the guide I used was that my device wasn't showing up as APX but rather Nintendo Switch.
  • B @ BigArnold:
I did it inside the Tegra app and Zadig.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Try a different USB c cable, or different USB port on your pc.
  • B @ BigArnold:
I tried a different port and don't have another cable. I'm fairly certain there's no issue with the equipment I'm using.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Some cheap USB c cables don't send data, they only charge
  • B @ BigArnold:
The cable is usually used to connect my controller to my switch's dock.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Only other thing Id suggest is using a phone/tablet and use the Rekato app
