Elon Musk buys out Twitter for $44 billion, plans to take company private

asdasddsadadas.png

We've long become used to gaming industry buyouts; between Microsoft and Sony's recent acquisitions, and future rumors, it's of little surprise to see a smaller studio scooped up by an infinitely larger one. But over in the tech world, there's been a buyout a little weirder than usual; on Monday, Twitter was bought by the ever-eccentric world's richest man, Elon Musk. The cost of the deal totals a staggering $44 billion--$54.20 per share of stock. Following this, Musk plans to make Twitter a privately-owned company, and the full acquisition is set to take place later in 2022.

In regards to the buyout, Elon Musk stressed that he wants to improve Twitter by adding new features, making the site's algorithms open source, and focusing on "free speech", claiming that the company has a lot of potential. Employees of Twitter expressed frustration at the lack of transparency from the higher-ups within the company about the buyout, and nervousness as they were unsure what would happen to their jobs, as Musk plans to make drastic changes in the future.

"Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated," said Mr. Musk. "I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it."

Twitter is a cesspool with MAPs (aka Pedos), racists, double standard assholes, etc. If he can make a difference, more power to him.
He's only ever talked about eliminating spam bots, the rest will supposedly still be allowed on his "freeze peach" platform. The truth is he just wants more control over the political discourse to favor billionaires like himself and Trump. The social media arm of Faux News.

They believe like Pocahontas and Obama that free speech is dangerous to our "democracy". Mass censorship and letting companies abuse us however they want are our values.

I still won't be signing up to be among a bunch of braindead trash, but it can't really get any worse.

I have however been enjoying watching the liberals melt down over Musk's move. They already hated Musk because he's a successful person in the world and Twitter was on of their "safe places" where they could spew their hatred and racism without recourse whilst silencing anyone that they disagreed with or disagreed with them. Watching how the liberals are reacting now that the playing field will be fair is fucking hilarious. They don't have a leg to stand on. I'm with you though. I won't be creating an account.

...Or people hate him because his "success" was predicated on being born into immense wealth generated by slave labor. He also bought out Tesla and called himself a "founder" after the fact, he's never created or invented anything of his own. Hell, even just hating him for his smarmy pre-teen like attitude is perfectly valid. Man could've been or done absolutely anything with all that money and he decided to become the world's biggest cringelord.

Alright people, here's the thing: I don't agree with everything Elon Musk wants to do (he wants to upload our brains to the cloud... cringe!), but he's right about this. Free speech on the internet is being attacked, and if free speech on our opinions was taken away here on GBAtemp, we more than likely wouldn't be able to post on what a nutcase Elon Musk is. Twitter is one of those anti-social social "fake woke" platforms, where they delete your comments if you don't agree with them. Elon wants to change that, and with all the money he has and the influence he's got, it's likely he'll be able to, too.

After all, somebody's gotta teach a member of GAMMANT a lesson.

So is being a billionaire. Easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle and all that. I'm not Christian, but it sure sounds like that Jesus guy wouldn't have cared much for Elon.

Maybe look words up you don't understand before making yourself look silly.

"Non-standard"... The word itself makes no logical sense. So, people write it off as "slang". May as well consider short hands like "sup" as legitimate words as well.

He's not the only billionaire that falls under this umbrella. Or at least the whole "done absolutely anything with all that money" umbrella.

The only way he could make shitter better is if he removed the "you need an account to see this nsfw stuff" bs.
But guess it's gonna end up retarted like tumblr and such, oh well, at least I wouldn't have to worry about not being able to download art from there then.

I'm sorry that you're envious. Envy is a sin you know.
Greed's a sin too, y'know.

True, all the more reason billionaires shouldn't exist at all. Regardless, they sure as shit shouldn't be allowed to buy out social media platforms just to help advance their position in the class war. Too many fucking bootlickers out there already.

Which is why people like @Xci that are greedy and think they have the right to others peoples money and assets are sinners. It's not a sin to be wealthy and Elon Musk does a lot of good with his money including donating to charities and now buying Twitter. It's not my problem the liberals are jealous. It's quite funny actually.

A lot of wealthy people do a lot of good with their money and it's not up to other people on what they can or cannot do with it either. Liberals think they have a right to other peoples stuff and in reality they don't. If you want to become a billionaire go start a business. Nothing is stopping you regardless of the excuses you make.

he still has to worry about the FTC they could reject the buy out not on monopoly grounds I feel they (could theoreticly) deny it on national security concerns with him being buddy buddy with the CCP (and you know the CCP LOVES Spying on americans)also don't forget if he open sources twitters algorithims he could open a pandora's box of espionage by both the CCP AND the KGB and any bad actors willing to evesdrop

I just enjoy watching people freak out over this. I don't really have a social media presence, so if Twitter died over night, I wouldn't care.

Also, those people claiming to leave, will leave, just like Trump supporters did, after Trump got banned. You know damn well, 99% of them will be back after a few days at most.

I hope he keeps his word about turning Twitter HQ into a homeless shelter. lol

If that were a concern, then TikTok wouldn't be allowed to operate. After all, that's literally owned by the Chinese and is used by far more people than Twitter is.

It's not a sin to be wealthy
It literally is though. Jesus physically kicked people like Musk out of the church when they tried to prey on the impoverished. Maybe don't cherry pick quotes from the bible if you don't like everything else it has to say.

You're misunderstanding the point. It's not a matter of what they do with their money. It's how much of an impact it has. Never mind the massive tax breaks the wealthy get in comparison to the little guys. What they do with it is what they do with it. Turning it political by throwing the term "liberals" around has no relevance here.

It's not a sin to be rich, it's a sin to use your money to do bad things with. Did either you or @Xci even view my link? I'll post it again. Maybe you missed it.

The liberals are the ones who are most upset with Elon Musk buying twitter and its the conservatives that are happy he did. Twitter would censor or block certain (conservative) political view points or opinions if they went against the liberal agenda. I think politics fits fine when discussing this matter. It's the liberals who are most outraged ... they really hate and envy Elon Musk and are jealous of his standing and wealth he's obtained and now their "safe place" where they could spew their vile hatred and racism freely without opposition is going to go away.

I'm genuinely curious as to how the ruling Conservative party in the UK will react to Musk era Twitter in time.

The reason is because the Tories want to introduce legislation targeting social media, etc. which involves banning 'content' which could go against Musk's public ideology e.g. 'hate speech', 'misinformation', etc. Which in turn may also contribute to 'cancel culture', 'censorship', etc.

Which would also be ironic considering the 'left vs right' arguments that always spring up around Twitter discussions and how some MPs have criticised 'cancel culture'.

Gee, I wonder why a blanket policy like "no violence or threats of harm" might catch more conservatives than anyone else.
