To be honest, I only heard of these existing but I never actually been to or seen one myself. So I'm just curious what would be the reason behind it.

Students, do you wish you were at one? Parents, would you ever send your child there? Many questions come to mind.

Seen a few over the years, was even one of each for older ages (one had mixed until about 10-11) active as I was growing up somewhat near to one of the houses I lived. You do also get a few, and several departments effectively that*, in universities (there was a women's college in the news the other month for telling their charges that your fertility drops like a stone after about 30, and possibly less than that, so consider that beforehand https://www.theguardian.com/comment...ociety-fertility-seminars-barriers-parenthood ).

Originally there would have been an academic split -- make nice young ladies with requisite skills, diction and poise while making all the factory owners/lawyers/engineers/soldiers**/whatever out of the boys. I am sure I nice dose of puritanism did not hurt (might even have helped at some level -- boys and girls will be boys and girls... or indeed see "Mother and Baby Home"). Specialisation might be for insects but it has its perks on the economic side of things too.

* https://external-content.duckduckgo...vel-and-gender-2013-2014-large.jpg&f=1&nofb=1 is older and less clear than it could be but illustrative.

** do remember most education is derived from military drills when that was discovered. One of the many reasons it is less than ideal today but I will spare that rant as I have done it before.

Speaking to those that went through it then it makes for some interesting dynamics, and not necessarily in the ways you would think (let's just say it predicts many of the same things that those times someone has the idea to run an all female company/department, albeit with the sociopathy of children and lack of hierarchy beyond simple social***). I don't know what goes in current space year though with internet and kids being allowed to roam around outside (though many of said same are probably lumped with extra curriculars and shut in the house such that they arrived at university with zero street smarts). I don't know what I can comment about academics for the ones I encountered as most of those would have been public schools (do note that public school in the UK is private school elsewhere, state school for the thing that government provides for all that need it. There are also private schools in the UK) and thus usually the kids of smart people (intelligence is quite a heritable trait) that went there so possibly skewed a bit, in addition to general funding boosts.

***technically you might have had head boy/head girl, prefects and age related fun with later years but... meh really. https://thinkstudent.co.uk/what-is-a-school-prefect-and-what-do-they-do/ if you were curious.

That sounds like a place for teaching gender roles.

I'd say it can help some of them to concentrate on studies ...
In my class I was by far not the only guys who was sitting in the last rows because it was nice to see the girls asses as they hardly wore any clothes in summer :P (well I overexegrate a little bit but just a little)

So yeah at least back in the days we were more focused on the girls then on our studies so I am pretty sure if its a boys or girls only school this either wouldn't happen or as some mentioned you might get some more gay people that still get distracted XD

Experiences with traditionally "gendered" trade schools show that this does not, in fact, help with studies.

It does hinder social development though.

To keep the genders separated and socialize with their own.

It's like segregation/division, turning people into two or more groups although there was no ill will here.

There might be some ill will but that’s always case by case. I actually know a few trans folks who were sent an all boys/girls schools when they expressed their identities at a young age. Many had parents who hoped they could “cure them of being trans” by sending them to those schools. It’s not always the case but it does occasionally happen. I also know many other queer folks who went through similar experiences but with religious schools. Basically being sent there in an effort to “turn them straight.”

Sorry you're not good with Windows Sylvester. lol
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Because co-pilot doesnt even show up on my pc. Not in the taskbar, not in the start menu search, and the option in settings to turn it on and off in the taskbar is not even displayed.

Well, I complain about Microsoft all the time. You seem to enjoy it, no offense. If you like using Windows, that's fine by me.

Liking Windows or not is an opinion. Yes.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Being able to disable copilot is not an opinion. lol. its a fact that it can be disabled.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Yet you just laugh about it when I tell you, like Im lying
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
People can dislike Windows all they want. But I will call out the over-exaggerations, misconceptions, half truths, and lies about it.

Tired of the entire "BUT BUT BUT WINDOWZ SPYWARE!!!" thing too, when the same people give out tons of their personal info to plenty of other companies but say nothing about it.

@RedColoredStars, Companies do the exact same thing with other companies as well, so it's not just Microsoft. There are 3rd-parties like 'data brokers'.

I'm 52 years old and one of my jobs in life was marketing research. Im well aware. I've been online for around 30 years. Everyone and their grandmother already has my personal information. One more having my email address isn't ruining my life or even effecting me in any way whatsoever.

In fact. I freely give info. Stuff like gasoline apps, to save $, grocery apps, lots of cash back from rakuten, etc. etc.

$300 back last year from Rakuten for allowing them to track my purchase. I'll take the money for them to know I bought a bunch of stuff for my cat and some video games. lol

    @K3Nv2, Exactly.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
And for people to say things like "But I use all fake info". No, they don't. lol. They use fake info for all of their banking and online shopping? Fake shipping address, fake payment info? lol
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Fake name, address and payment info for internet service, etc? lol. Ill say it again. Everyone freaks out about OMG WINDOWS!! But crickets on anything else they do.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Other windows stuff people complain about hypocritically too. Like "But but but Windows bundle junk apps!!!!" Yeah?? So do many Linux distributions. Dont like it? Use one without them. Same with windows. Either find a pre-made version without the bundled stuff, or very easily make your own installer with what you want and do not want.
