Updating is fine, there were a few things broken at first, but everything is back now. The only real loss afaik was Pichaxx, the guide has now switched to unSAFE_MODE as the main exploit.

As the guide says:

3DS firmware 11.16.0 was recently released. Here’s what you should know:

• If your device is running Luma 11.0, it is 100% safe to update. You can check your Luma version by holding (Select) while booting your device.
• If your device is on an older Luma version, you should update Luma before you update your device to 11.16.0.
• If your device does not yet have custom firmware, you can still install it on this version for free without any additional hardware, but the recommended method has been changed.

(Note: Any Luma v10.2.1 or newer actually works, so if you use the quick switcher fork on v10.3 still that's fine)

In a "saves" folder, with that being in the same place as the ROM. Ex. for sd:/roms/DS/Pokémon White.nds the save is at sd:/roms/DS/saves/Pokémon White.sav.

Technically Pichaxx still works – you just can't use it to install boot9strap. However, that's the only reason most people would want to use it.

Extreme hacking noob here with my first post, huzzah!

I CFW'd my 2ds last night, and that's my first hacked console ever. I followed 3ds.hacks.guide, and while couldn't get the Pkmn Picross exploit to work, the DSiware one got it done! This was really kind of an experiment, and now that I've done it/know I can do it (at least at this basic level), I have a new goal: I want to clone my 2DS - but is that possible/feasible?

Context: my roommate and I own 2 New 2DSXLs and the one old 2ds between us, but at this point, we really just share one of them as our primary/default console, and essentially all of the eShop games we care about are on this one N2DSXL. Yet we do have these two spare consoles just collecting dust, and since Nintendy has declared they no longer want our money and have refused to provide a legitimate pathway to paying them, all bets are off.

Now, I get that I could just pirate copies of my purchased eShop games, dump & copy cartridge games over (or pirate them too, come to that), and then figure out how to save transfer. I also get that this would achieve essentially the same effect, but it seems like that all would take a lot more time/stress/effort than just making a whole-ass copy (or two) of my 'primary' 2DSXL.

I've searched up this topic a BUNCH in the last week or so as the eShop's death, long foretold, approached, but most of the threads I have found are effectively derailed with concerns about the possibility of getting banned from said eShop - I assume that this is no longer a valid concern, but I'm a noob, what do I know? Maybe there's some other problem this could cause that haven't considered/that I'm simply unaware of. So here goes:

tl/dr, here are my questions:

1. Is it possible to 'clone' my not-yet-hacked, currently-100%-legitimate 2DSXL onto another 2DSXL and/or an old, non-XL 2DS with CFW? If so, how exactly? Are there guides? Tools/programs?
2. Are there any potential major consequences of cloning that are worth consideration?
3. Is there another method that would effectively accomplish what I want, which, again, is mostly to put all of my current, legitimately purchased games/saves onto a second 2DS without losing the same games/saves on the first?
4. EDIT: Worst-case scenario, if cloning isn't possible/feasible, how can I at least 'system transfer' backwards from my N2DSXL to my old 2DS?

I should say for starters that custom-install makes installing multiple .cia files considerably less painful.

But more to the point, open discussion of piracy isn't something that's particularly encouraged on this board, which is probably why you don't see much talk about this.

Since you have cfw installed in atleast one of them, you can back up your games with GodMode9 so you can install them on any cfw'ed system.
Same with game saves, you can back up your saves with Checkpoint, so you can restore them as many times as you want and in any other modded system.

It's not important to update it, but it has a few additions that could be helpful in troubleshooting.. I don't see why you shouldn't want to update it..

It's an application you can use to update it manually. And I tried updating it after the CTRTransfer in system settings and recovery mode and it always fails to update

Do you get an error when you try to update the system? Have you looked online what the error code means?
I'm assuming you have a working wifi board on your system, and a stable WiFi connection..

You need to use a special fork, but with that fork (which is the latest luma just with plugin support) yes it works fine

Nah. All you need is your 3DS in front of you and a computer with an SD slot.

You just need an sd card. Follow the guide here and don't skip any steps (including checking the sd card with h2testw).
If you're on higher firmware you'd have to follow the Seedminer method.
If you're on a lower firmware (below 11.3.0), Soundhax is recommended instead & is easier to follow..
