Initial Mig Switch flashcart units now available and being tested by reviewers

aaaa.png

The first batch of the Mig Switch flashcarts have made their way into the hands of reviewers. Plenty of initial impressions have gone live, with users showing off how the device works. Just as promised, you can in fact play your "legally owned Nintendo Switch games", across any model of Nintendo Switch. However, there are more questions raised than answered.

For one, it's still uncertain if and when you'll get banned after playing online using the Mig Switch--the team claims so long as you have a valid certificate, card ID set, and card UID, and a fully complete game dump, you'll be able to play online just fine. Whether or not Nintendo can notice and take action is something that will take time to see. In order to obtain updates and DLCs for games, you'll need to be online to download them, as the Mig Switch can't load those files itself.

This leads into another quandary. The three aforementioned aspects--the certificates and IDs--come from a backed up copy of a Nintendo Switch game. If someone were to illicitly share their certificate online, there could be dozens or hundreds of users using the same cert for multiple games, across multiple systems, at the same time. Since you can obtain a certificate from a physical game, there's growing concern as to how it could affect pre-owned backed up copies of games that might have had their certificates used and banned. We know for a fact that Nintendo has banned gamecart certificates in the past, as found by scene memeber SciresM back in 2018.

If you're interested in seeing the Mig Switch in action, there are a handful of reviews from notable emulation-focused YouTubers.

So far, what are your thoughts on the Mig Switch? There's plenty of interesting quirks to the device, from its usage, to its mysterious development team. Have you ordered one, either to test out, or for use on trickier to softmod Switch revisions? Or are you staying away from anything to do with this flashcart?

Well these foods contain Ammonia, so you are eating piss (as you say): Cheese, potato chips, peanut butter, onions, Butter, Gelatin/jello, Flour/wheat, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, Eggs, fish. Cereals, Bread.
What does this have to do with the Mig Switch? Go back to off-topic or EOF.

Does this work on patched switch?
Yes. It works on ALL Switch models as explained.

Question regarding danger of getting banned: If I am during usage of the MIG Switch ALWAYS offline, do you think that my Switch gets banned eventually? Because I would assume that as long you are not going online with your downloaded (and flagged) switch game, I don't expect that it woul cause any danger of ban. As there should be no trace logged of the version I used when later going online with my 100% legal copies. Or am I wrong and Nintendo logs all games i am inserting and then later send it to their servers?

Telemetry of everything you do offline or online is stored on your Switch nand, so even later going online after playing pirated games offline, is a possible ban, but we really don't know about the Mig and bans it may cause, yet.

Thank you, I am just wondering if Telemetry saves the UID of the Cart you used, because I don't see any reason why it should except potentially piracy. Potentially the MIG Switch, if the theorized 10USD production costs are right, will cause in future massive issues with used game market, because at that price, it would become a good business to falsify cartridges.

The telemetry based bans we see on hacked switches are because the switch is reporting it is playing a game with a bad signature. That is pretty much it. This is not an issue with playing games via memory cartridge because they do have legit signatures. And since your switch isn't hacked it is clearly passing all the checks.

It is only the serial number passed along when playing on the online servers that have the ability to be double checked outside of the switch, but it will only catch the case where you may be using the serial number for the wrong cart. No one seems to be able to verify if this can happen. This has never happened.

It’s a good thing we’re all honest upstanding citizens and will only ever use this to play our “legit backups” of games we still own and didn’t sell back to GameStop once we dump them. It’s also amazing knowing absolutely none of us would ever continue buying used games from GameStop, dumping them, and then returning them until every last switch game is dumped on our 4tb SSD drives and then just shrug when the ban hammer slams cause all the best switch games don’t need network access anyway ❤️

So since the first week of February is coming to a close…has anyone’s orders shipped yet or heard any updates from anywhere?

Last I heard bundles won’t be shipping from most places till beginning of March but that doesn’t include single orders from those who ordered first

I'd say wait until enough evidence is out before everybody gets a boner for this like everyone got hard for custom firmware on the switch when support was still happening why hackers won't be patient and not wait for support to end feels like blatent stupidity and stubbornness I get the main lack of themes and a proper folder management system is retarded as hell but I'd wait till support has ended like with wii u and 3ds before anything happens then do the tinkering.

What's really messed up is the fact that they didn't wait for the switch 2 to come out before releasing the MIG SWITCH. Now Nintendo will buy a mig switch and reverse engineer it to find a fix before the switch 2 comes out...

While i see your logic there i think the switch 2 wont be out until latest 2026 as the switch still has a lot of life left in it.

It may come down to switch 1's life is old and flourished and if there is money to be made from it, now is the time. if you hold off and find MIG does not work on the switch 2 anyways and then release when switch 2 is all the hype you will get lost in the news and lose on sales.

Are y'all ready for: "Why my Switch is banned" threads in the following months?
popcorn-michael-jackson.gif

Also... 1 month until chinese clones it.
if i remember correctly, it requires the id of the cart, so roms wouldnt work, it would have to be a legitimately owned game

I'm sure some will be sharing their certs just like how KVs used to get shared back on Xbox 360
I could be wrong so just bear with me here, but im sure the switch has a verification on the ID's, so it would require the cart at least once right?
Again i could be totally wrong, i havent seen many cards like this since R4 cards.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.
