With a market filled to the brim with oversized chairs, some people with smaller frames often wish there was more focus on chairs that fit them better. That is where Anda Seat's Jungle 2 compact gaming chair looks to fill the demand. The Jungle 2 features a redesigned look along with hideaway foot rest.

Anda Seat recommends this chair for people who are 5' 9" and under, the chair will support a weight up to 330lbs.

Unboxing

The box weighing in at a little over 51lbs, might be difficult for some to handle on their own. I was able to get it up a flight of stairs by rolling the box on its side. Once we open it up, we can see the base and the footrest; everything seems like it was well-padded to prevent any damage. Unboxing all the parts, it might seem a bit daunting, but if you ever put a chair together before, it's a fairly straightforward and similar process regardless of whether it's an office or gaming chair.

Assembly

As mentioned above, assembly was pretty simple, everything goes together with the two included allen wrenches, one of which is just used to install the four bolts on the footrest supports. I did skim through the manual to see if there were any special instructions during installation to take note of and was a bit disappointing to see multiple misspellings of the word "screw" which was instead spelled as "crew". This is the generic version of their manual which means it ships with pretty much every chair they make, mistakes included. For a larger company like Anda Seat I expect some better quality control. The manual itself is written in 9 different languages. The footrest instructions were a separate page that was included in with the manual.

Manual aside I was pleasantly surprised with how quality felling all the parts were, even the base which was pretty heavy for just being made of nylon. The PVC leather felt nice, something you might find in an actual car and not the cheap leather you find on lower-quality seats. The seat base, armrests, and back all have a solid steel frame construction; no wood panels like you would find on budget chairs. The only issue during assembly I had was was the armrests were not labeled L or R, one side of the armrests comes to a slight point where as the other is more rounded. The manual said to take note of which is left or right before installing, but nowhere was it labeled as such, I would like to have seen a simple L or R stamped on the underside of the steel bracket to designated its intended orientation. Other than that aligning the backrest on the two swivel brackets on the base was a little difficult with only one person but I managed to get the holes aligned after a few minutes of maneuvering. The footrest was really simple to install, just two brackets. spaces, and screws, and the footrest just slides into the holders, the footrest frame and pad came pre-assembled.

Usage & Features

Now we are fully assembled we can explore some of the chair's features. The backrest is able to recline up to 160° and a minimum of 90°. There is a nice handle located at your right side hip that adjusts the recline position. At the full recline, the chair felt just a little unstable as if it was just at that point of tipping over, thankfully that never occurred but something to keep in mind. The lumbar pillow and neck pillow felt pretty comfortable, having memory foam inside of them along with the same leather exterior, time will tell if the elastic straps holds up.

Moving along to the armrests, they are 2D armrests, which means they move up and down but also can move inward and outward. I really don't see a real-world use out of moving this way other than height, they felt pretty uncomfortable with anything thing other than in the normal straight position. The pad material is made of some sort of dense rubber/foam. I would have liked to see proper padding but they are not uncomfortable after long periods of use.

Finally the footrest: it simply slides out and flips over and you plant your legs on it. Now I feel a bit conflicted about the footrest, on one hand, it seems like a neat idea, and on the other, it seems a bit on the flimsy side compared to the rest of the chair, it makes a lot of creaking sounds, and the internal structure of the pad is made with wood. It almost seems like it won't hold up to frequent use, it also is just a bit short where your calves are resting on it instead of your feet. It almost seems like this part of the chair was an afterthought, if you are a teen then if would probably be fine but a larger adult might not find much use out of it.

Final Thoughts

The Jungle 2 being a compact chair is able to fit just fine nestled into this tight space shown above, the desk sits pretty low but the chair is still able to slide in under the desk. You can see in the side profile view of a 12-year-old budget staples office chair I was using before this, except for the wheelbase and backrest, everything else about the chair is pretty much the same size compared to the old one. Another thing to consider this chair is if you are tight on space where bigger chairs will not fit properly.

I would also like to mention the stitching which is the only color you will find on this chair that acts like an accent color. It is like a cooper-ish shade of orange, it doesn't distract from the rest of the chair, just compliments it, which is nice because not everything "gamer" needs to be red and black. The logo in the middle of the chair reminds me a lot of the Benefactor logo from GTAV, more so because of how many hours I sank into that game.

There are a couple of different materials used on the chair so its not just all leather, the inlay where your arms and shoulders would rest is covered in a felt-like material, and also on top of the raised lips on the seat, it is the same material that is covering the footrest. It feels nice to the touch and adds a bit of contrast and styling to the chair.

The last thing I would to talk about, is the size of the seat, both length, and depth. I am just able to just fit in it but you can tell by pics there was a bit more room on the sides that could have been utilized to make the seat just 2-4 inches larger and or make the side seat ridges less pronounced and flatter. That could have opened this chair up to a lot more people while keeping its compact size and made the seat more comfortable.

Verdict

What We Liked ...
  • High build quality and materials used
  • Compact size
  • Nice subtle design without using loud colors
What We Didn't Like ...
  • Narrow seat, not for the wider folks
  • Foot rest seems more gimmicky rather than practical

Overall

The Anda Seat Jungle 2 is a great high quality compact gaming chair with a only a few negatives. It is great for those who are on the small side but the big and tall should probably looks elsewhere. The Anda Seat Jungle 2 currently retails for $299.99

Thats midrange for "gaming chairs"
The higher end stuff usually retails for around $400-500, low end generic generic ones on amazon around $120

Still no where near those $1400 ergonomic mesh office chairs
