Review Approach:

This was my first ever video game. I got it for my fifth birthday along with a new NES console. It's a nostalgic and rage-inducing game, though to say the least.
Duck Hunt for the NES was released on October 18, 1985. It's a basic shooter game where you use an included gun to shoot down flying ducks. The game in turn will keep track of your scores for that play session.
This was THE game to play for me when I was growing up. It was this and Super Mario Bros. that got me excited with Nintendo, and after these it was like, don't stop buying these games. Even today, I'm still a Nintendo guy that loves to see what they can come out with next. It was a mindlessly silly game that provided a five year old me a lot of entertainment.
Gameplay
I can easily sum this game up in one sentence, and that would be point and shoot. But the game basically loads, with a rather quirky soundtrack, and you aim the gun at the screen where you want to go, and the game will open up with the adorable puppy that goes and provokes the birds. Your goal is to shoot as many of the ducks down within the ten bullets provided, or it's game over. And getting game over means you get that damned puppy popping out of the bush to laugh at you.

Replayability
The game is mindlessly easy, and it's fun on occasions if you're bored. Sadly it gets old quickly after a few rounds, and the lack of a saving system for high scores can be depressing at times. It is definitely an interesting game though, for a game that was released so long ago.
Would I Buy It?
It's a relatively inexpensive game, and for me it was a large part of my childhood. If I had my old NES system I would pick it up just for the fun of it because I loved it all those years ago. It does get a bit boring after a bit, but hey it's a piece of old gaming history.

Verdict

What I Liked ...
  • -Mindlessly easy to play.
  • -Quirky and interesting soundtrack.
  • -Relatively inexpensive purchase.
What I Didn't Like ...
  • -That dog will mock you once you lose.
  • -Repetitive gameplay.
5
Gameplay
It gets old and repetitive after several rounds. It basically comes down to point shoot tactics.
7
Presentation
Easy to navigate, and very simplistic.
7
Lasting Appeal
It's a really old school game, which I enjoyed quite a bit as a child, and still enjoy now.
6.5
out of 10

Overall

For the sake of nostalgia and having a good time, I'd happily pick it up. It's relatively inexpensive to purchase!
All the nostalgia... stupid LCD flat screen televisions these days.

I would have actually given it a slightly lower gameplay score because the intended light gun only works off of curved glass television screens.

Sweet review for such a simple game :D
