One of the Peak Design Everyday Backpack v2’s main draw personally is its modular aspect. Not only can you adjust the main compartment’s configuration with the included dividers but you can further fit in smaller storage options for better organising your belongings as well as easily take them out for individual use. In this review, we’ll take a look at some of these module options from Peak Design: the Tech Pouch, Field Pouch v2 and Packing Cube.

Peak Design Tech Pouch

This accessory retails for €58 and comes in five colour variants. It packs a quality finish that looks good and ensures safe storage of your tech items as it is weatherproof.

While its dimension of 15 x 24 x 10cm makes the Tech Pouch look compact, it can pack a surprising number of items thanks to its origami-inspired folding pocket layout. I was positively impressed that it could fit a handheld like the Anbernic win600  easily, while still having room for other devices such as a power bank, phone and cables. Without a handheld console, you can expect to pack in even more gadgets. On a recent trip, I’ve used it to hold a smartphone, mobile controller, power bank, USB hub, external hard drive and accompanying cables just fine.

Peak Design brings its iconic modularity to the Tech Pouch as well as you can attach straps to it and use the pouch as a sling. However, straps are not included in the Tech Pouch and they feel somewhat wanting. That said, the Tech Pouch easily became my favourite of the bunch. It stores a surprising number of gears in an organised fashion while ensuring their safety with a weatherproof exterior.

Peak Design Field Pouch v2

Now in its second generation, the Field Pouch v2 costs €45.70, with the option to choose from three exterior colours.

It also sports a sturdy, weatherproof shell while offering expandable storage space from 1.5L to 3L. This is quite impressive considering its relatively small form factor and the rolltop design makes compressing unused space easy. It bears similarities to the Tech Pouch as it can double as an in-bag organiser while also functioning as a sling. While cheaper than the Tech Pouch, it comes with an adjustable, removable carry strap. Alternatively, you can also loop it onto your belt for a fanny pack-like use.

I found it to be a great companion for the Nintendo Switch (with detached Joy-Cons). With the handheld stored in, the Field Pouch still has space for additional gear such as cables, a power bank and a wallet. However, it would have been more convenient to be able to store the Switch with Joy-Cons attached. The Switch in this configuration should technically fit the Field Pouch but the tapered ends of the latter restricts an adequate fit. Devices without removable controllers such as the Anbernic win600 don’t fit as well, so you might be looking to fit more compact handhelds with the Field Pouch v2.

Peak Design Packing Cube

The final accessory we’ll be looking at is the Packing Cube. Unlike the Tech Pouch and Field Pouch, the Packing Cube comes in different sizes. The one under review is the 18L medium Packing Cube which costs €37.

As the name suggests, the Packing Cube is meant to pack your belongings. Peak Design estimates that it can hold 20 t-shirts but I also found it to be adequate for storing cables and power bricks for my handheld consoles and phone.

Even with the Packing Cube, Peak Design didn’t cut corners with the quality and design. While lighter than the counterparts reviewed, it is still weatherproof and uses a durable exterior shell that can even automatically close small punctures and abrasions. Regarding its design, it includes a back zip to separate clean/dirty clothes. It is also expandable with additional zips, with 8L capacity when compressed and 18L when expanded.

Like the Tech Pouch and Field Pouch, the Packing Cube also fits in the Peak Design Everyday Backpack v2’s perfectly. I can easily recommend looking into those accessories if you own the Everyday Backpack. They serve as neat modules that feature premium craftsmanship, ensure secure storage and enable individual use of the modules. They will come at an extra cost each but the lifetime warranty, quality and versatility justify those purchases.
