When I first looked at the UGREEN X6, I wasn’t totally drawn by its look. The earbuds have an almost jagged design but they do fit comfortably in the ear. The build quality is also decent made of sturdy plastic while being rather lightweight.
The charging/carry case is also rather ligthweight and packs a slim form factor that makes it easy to fit in your pocket and carry around.
Pairing the X6 earbuds is as easy as you can expect out of Bluetooth-enabled devices. Given that UGREEN X6 features a touch panel, you can use them for full audio controls; including volume adjustment. This is the feature that many earbuds seem to lack but UGREEN thankfully integrated in the X6.
It takes some time to get used to remembering the tap controls but you can eventually get used to it. However, the touch controls are a hit-or-miss affair and this seems to be the standard with touch-controlled earbuds. Sometimes, the touch panel will register a tap, at other times, it won’t, meaning that the desired action will not take place and another one will happen instead. Given that these earbuds register quadruple taps, you’ll have to be meticulous and patient with it.
However, the audio quality that they deliver compensate for the annoyance that might be caused by the touch controls. The X6 delivers crisp audio while balancing on the treble and bass without the latter feeling overpowering. Such an audio output make these earbuds a suitable fit for general use from listening to music to playing casual games on your phone.
It’s also well adapted to let you take calls with its 6 integrated microphones (3 per earbud). They pick up the user’s voice clearly and do a decent job to let you engage in a conversation wirelessly but aren’t spectacular.
The active noise cancelling feature is also a handy feature. Accessible by long pressing on one earbud, they mask ambient sounds to a certain degree. The effect isn’t mind-blowing per se but it is a welcome addition.
For less than $30 (at a discounted price. otherwise it's at $60), the UGREEN HiTune X6 Active Noise Cancelling Earbuds is worth looking into as a budget pair of earbuds. It gives you full autonomy over the audio controls and packs a handy ANC feature.
