I don't think any pokemon game yet has been made for the sole purpose of milking, that's a bit extreme.

Considering it is an optional accessory and brings with it the release of Monster Hunter on a Nintendo handheld, I expect sales will increase after that announcement.

True, but on the other hand, people might opt to wait for the inevitable redesign with the second analog already built in.

Then again I might be overestimating the number of cynical pessimists in the target market.

That is true, but they have come pretty close. HGSS was almost completely unnecessary, though it was a good remake.

Everyone is talking about an RS remake. RSE is new enough not to warrant a remake, though, so it would generally be for the money.

Don't get me wrong, I have played R/S/E all several times and I love them, but seriously, they're so new they even use the same visual style.

I think if you're overestimating anything it's the liklihood of a redesign w/ dual analog controls. And you're not alone - it seems to be a comfortable assumption here and on some other boards I hit that this is "inevitable" and imminent. I disagree. Not saying it won't ever happen, but if it does I'm guessing it'll be later in the cycle, like was done with the DSi. On the other hand, the usual redesign about a year from now (1.5 yrs after launch) with an improved display, battery life & etc. is almost to be expected, based on Nintendo's track record. I just don't see them changing the fundamental design for a while, if ever.

Or, I could be wrong. Time will tell. In the meantime, I'm just gonna enjoy having the 3DS and buy the games that appeal to me.

Personally, I don't think a redesign will happen THAT soon. Probably next year they'll announce it but not as soon as recent. If they do a redesign now it'll not just destroy the current 3DS but also tarnish Nintendo's reputation which is like s**t recently (I feel it that way, especially after confirming the existence of the slidepad peripheral).

Maybe that peripheral will even be used in the redesign. Who knows? Maybe it's the exact same thing only with a better battery/wider screen/more powerful hardware but still retain one stick. I can never confirm this though, I might even be wrong myself.
