I just noticed my 3DS XL has a yellow tint in the top screen, any other folks have this? It's most obvious in the system menu where most things are white. You can clearly see a yellow (or "warmer") tint. It's not too annoying but I figured I'd ask about.

Any other folks could weigh in maybe?

edit, after looking around this is an issue that was also present in the original 3DS it seems and Nintendo won't change it. It looks like this:

It looks like a poorly manufactured screen and seriously distracts :s

Not that much, but it's a fault nonetheless isn't it? If you a buy a brand new piece of electronic it shouldn't be too much of a expectation to have similarly tinted screens.

dont worry,i remember seeing at zelda wiki that it becomes normal over the time.
That sounds pretty good. Do you have some testimonies of how it becomes normal? It would put my mind more at ease.

What Gamewinner said. It doesn't look like much of a problem...
If it was both slightly tinted like that it wouldn't be noticeable. I can turn powersaving mode on but then it just becomes too much for both screens. Best I can do is put the brightness down and it becomes less noticeable. Hopefully the problem does go away over time like weavile001 said.

The yellow tint will not go away - it's a factory defect and you should return your unit and ask for a replacement (if it's bothering you, that is).

No yellow tint on mine. Not sure if there was on my 1st unit (this is my second, first went back for another reason).

The yellow tint, according to Nintendo is within normal parameters, and is not a defect. As such, they will not take any repairs under warranty for this problem.

The retailer might, should, and within the first week from the purchase date is legally obliged to accept returns.

I had the same problem with my first GBA - the screen was tinted to the point of being poorly visible and a complaint was all it took to convince the retailer that I'm entitled to a replacement while they send the unit for a routine check-up.

Nintendo can't tell whether the tint is within parameters or not if they don't see the unit itself - customer knows best, if it bothers him then he should return the unit.

It's a defect. Some systems have this problem, others don't. I would try to get it repaired.

Very possible that the Retailer might. I remember buying a DS lite from Gamestop, and it had the same problem. I went back, and I didn't leave the store until they found one without the defect, (which was surprisingly hard. 2/3 of the units they had in stock had that defect), and I walked out happy as a clam.

I'm glad to hear that your story ended with a happy end and I've never heard that expression, but I am so writing it down somewhere.

Apparantley on the Gamefaq 3DS boards, it's something to do with the glue that used in the manufacturing process and the tint will go away in time. Can't find the thread atm but if I do i'll post it up.

I'm seeing some conflicting reports here. Some say a permanent defect and I should get a refund? The glue thing seems iffy though, not sure how that would affect it (then again I'm not a an LCD manufacturing expert).

Nintendo's stance on it being normal is also messed up. I just checked the official website and it does state it's not reason for repair! :s

Now this is relevant to my interest. When did you buy it exactly, and how much playtime did it take to disappear?

If the yellow varies by unit I could believe it goes away over time. :)

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
