A console for playing everything (various video game consoles with cartridges) on one thing?

I've had this idea on my mind for a while for playing various video game console's game cartridges on one system, like an official or clone system and perhaps plus adapters for other game cartridges (or adapters plus adapters like N64 - Tri-Star 64 - RetroGen Adapter - Power Base Converter - Master System Cartridge). Like a retro gaming console for all retro systems (or at least a lot of them) or all classic game libraries of the past in one place and better than any Virtual Console or other re-release service. Like:

a N64 + N64 DD + Tri-Star 64 (FC, SFC, SNES) + FC to NES Adapter + FDS + Super GameBoy + RetroGen Adapter + PowerBase Converter + Wide-Boy 64 (N64, N64DD, FC, SFC, SNES, NES, FDS, GB, Dual Mode GBC, Genesis, MS, GBC, GBA)

Retrode + Adapters (SNES, Genesis, MS, GB, GBC, GBA, N64, 32X, ect.)

RetroN 3 + NES to FC Adapter + Super GameBoy + PowerBase Converter (NES, SNES, SFC, Genesis, FC, GB, Dual Mode GBC, MS)

Come to think of it, when N64 patents expire in like 2015, they could make a RetroN 4 or some other pirate system that's similar to the previous N64 + Tri-Star Combo.

The clones are never fully hardware compatible with the originals. Mostly ARM based chips emulating the systems.
If you're going to emulate the games might as well just hook a PC up to your TV (has the most accurate emulators) and use a wireless controller, or use emus on the wii etc.

Official carts belong in official hardware IMO :)

If you've got a cartridges collection, then why not. LOL! But that would be a lot of work making an all-in-one console rather than playing an emulator on a PC. Perhaps just build an arcade cabinet for emulators on a PC.

I can't even begin to imagine what kind of clusterfuck that would make.
The best multi-console is a PC, really. Those adapters are not going to have 100% compatibility and it's likely emulators will have better compatibility. Plus you don't get a huge clusterfuck, and you can still use cartridges if you really want to with a Retrode. I prefer the convenience of no cartridge swapping though.

And like ov3rkill said, an arcade cabinet with a PC and MAME + other emulators is awesome. Though the arcade controls might be lacking for some systems you can always plug in a USB controller.

Well, not all at once of course. Although you still could have N64 DD - N64 - (N64 Slot) WideBoy 64 - (SNES Slot) RetroGen Adapter - Power Base Converter - (NES Slot) Famicom Disk System.
And it's not like I'll play every single game until I'd come across compatibility issues. There are probably a lot of non-compatible games I could bypass.
So, will they make a RetroN 3 with N64 in 2015 (patents expire)? And could they also make a clone of the very expensive Wide-Boy 64 ('cause it's very expensive)?

Better than Virtual console don't make me laugh most people don't appreciate that system honsetly why emulate something that's already there just shell out for it no unauthorized company will beat the actual makers that are experts at what they do

Said unauthorized companies tend to have the benefit of having to replicate sometimes decades old hardware, and decades old hardware originally priced for consumers at that. See all those mods people do to improve video, audio, controls... variously because the original people were incompetent, unaware of market trends (especially in Europe) or just plain limited by budget? The unauthorized companies do not have to worry about that sort of thing and can go from the ground up.

By no means is getting a piece of unauthorised kit a sure fire thing as far as matching or exceeding the original hardware, however it is common enough to see original hardware beat and certainly well within the realms of reason for it happen for basically anything.
