So, I was using a save data manager in the Homebrew launcher on a New 3DS XL, I was going to back up my save file, but I accidentally hit "B" instead of "A", and it restored an OLDER save file instead of backing up the newer one. Now, I get an error saying the save file can't be used when I load my game. I know I could erase the save file, but is there another method where I could access the save file using a code of some sort?

Do you not have a backup of the newest one before doing so? If so, this happened to me and you're kinda screwed..

Newer SaveDataFilers can delete something called the "Secure Value" which is what tries to prevent you from using an imported save. Once you import your save, go to the User tab and highlight your Pokémon game's save (for Y, it's 0055E if I recall. If it's not for you, make sure your SD card's filer folder is empty and dump your save again, that'll give you a better idea of what the ID is), then press R + Y to delete the secure value (your SaveDataFiler needs to be r53438 or newer to delete the secure value).

For SaveDataFiler, there should be a button combination called "Delete Secure Value" on the top screen when you have the game highlighted in the SD tab. If yours doesn't have that you will need to reinstall the CIA.

Unless you only have Homebrew access, which in that case you should use JK Save Manager (which is the save manager you should have been using in the first place :P) JKSM removes secure value automatically but you will need to put your savedata (for Pokemon, it's a file called main) in SD:\JKSM\saves\Pokémon_Alpha_Sapphire\ I think(?)

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
