This is a bit more of a personal suggestion. It's already been done with blogs, so I see no reason it shouldn't be done with threads. Anyone on the thread access list should be able to delete replies they deem offensive or spammy. This would help tremendously with the thread I have linked in my signature, as it's been overrun with shitposts.

Slippery slope. "He disagreed with me, so I'm gonna delete his post." Report offensive posts and move on.

Yeeeah no, that just screams potential abuse, which Pedeadstrian already correctly pointed out.

If you're childish enough to think you need the ability to delete "offensive or spammy" posts without moderator approval, then you probably shouldn't be given access to delete posts at all.

I hate to argue with a contributor, but note the "It's already been done with blogs, so I see no reason it shouldn't be done with threads."

Blogs =/= the forum. Blogs are there for personal posts and nothing more, they have no value to the site as a whole. The rest of the site (excluding the EoF) is for legitimate discussion, and giving regular members the ability to moderate those discussions at will because they get butthurt when someone contradicts them or deems legitimate posts as "spammy" with 0 valid reasons is not something that will ever happen here.

Again, if you feel the need to delete posts on the forum without moderator approval, you probably shouldn't have the ability to delete posts at all. See shitposts? Report it as such, the mods will take care of it if deemed necessary. See spam? Report it, the mods will take care of it if deemed necessary.
