Hi,

I'm sorry if this happens but there are so many cases that i'm quite lost. Here's my problem :

I've bought a few games (one with CD, aka Skyrim, and another one yesterday for the soldes) but the thing is that I hate Steam. I hate the way it works. It needs almost a half of a giga to install on your computer, after you have updates every days, you can't install with CD properly because of this etc etc (i've a bad internet speed i've bought a 50Go game). And this is really boring. After I like the fact that all your games are in one place. But the thing you are dependant of a software is a shame. Really.

So I'd like to know if there are way to avoid the installation of steam in a computer, a way to play games WITHOUT having to use Steam, tips like that.

Thanks o/

Don't forget that it throws commercials in your face all the time. ;)

But erm...I don't really see any reason to avoid steam aside from the obvious one: don't use it in the first place. GoG has a client, but it's entirely optional. There are other gaming platforms (itch.io) for example, but I'm not really sure how dependent these all are. Of course, buying a game in a store is also a possibility.

Well this too, even i never been that much disturbed when i used steam in my old computer a few years ago.

GoG doesn't have the game i've bought, and not available in store too. Steam is my only option. BUt I don't want to launch Steam in order to launch my game. I don't want to be bothered by updates, I don't want to be bothered by Steam launching every time I launch my computer, i don't want steam to force everything I don't want.

I'm thinking about asking for a return for my game and well never playing it if i can't find a solution on this one.

Thanks for the first help o/

Just get a crack for the games you play?
Often it's enough to replace the steamapi.dll file with a cracked one that's universal.

Although Steam is a lot more than just a game launcher/downloader, it's a huge community and a way to conveniently play with friends (invite them easily, or join their current game), and that's why most people don't mind using it.
Plus, Steam sales are awesome.

IF the games require steam, your only way is to crack them...
Otherwise you can try to get them via other sources, for example gog which provides drm free games..

https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Home
USually tells where games are available and if it requires the steam client...

I Feel the same way but with origin games... Wanted to get battlefield but I already have the steam and blizzard clients,

Steam is lame... using Steam is not a very intelligent move... They make profit with your very own computers and in your face... that sh..ty.

GOG is a great source of very good old games.

steam is one of the best things to come to pc gaming.... summer sale anyone?, cloud saves etc!... I don't see what the hate is about! Even it autostarting with windows... if your boot drive isn't a ssd at this point... get in the now! The one thing I hate is all the publishers that jumped on the marketplace bandwagon afterwards, Origin Uplay etc... that annoys me!

Why would anyone not want to use steam??? :(
TBH on my gpd win I try to avoid steam as much as I can*. On a high end PC, you can just have it run in the background without problems, but on a device where memory optimization is important and that only is turned on to game, it's mostly taking up memory and delaying the actual launch of the game.

*not that I go out of my way for it, but if I have a GoG or other DRM-free variant, I use that one.
