I know status updates and their comments are supposed to be simple messages, hence the limit. But sometimes I think they're a bit too simple. As in, quite literally plain text.
Maybe it would be possible to have some basic markdown (Not bbcode, since markdown is quick and easy, despite only supporting a few formatting things). This would let us add another degree of flexibility to updates and comments, by being able to emphasize things with italics or bold text. A good example of basic markdown being used is in Discord.
Usual implementations of basic markdown have:
* or _ for italics
so *hello* and _hello_ both create hello
** for bold
so **hello** is hello
and optionally, ` for inline codeblocks (Which adds a background and makes the font monotype)
This one can probably be missed, although would be cool if it existed.
I am aware that depending on the code behind status updates, that this might be hard to implement. But it's something I'd like to see so I'm posting anyway on the off-chance that it's possible.
