And it's not necessarily a bad movie for that. As a matter of fact I love Bridgette Jones as a movie, just the first one...
Wonder why
Anyway, now that I'm an adult (been watching Bridgette Jones every Christmas since it came out... and any chick-flick that crosses my zapping habits) I'm seeing the movie differently... very differently.
Bridgette Jones tells a story of a single 32 year old women, that just happens to get attracted to a TV producer and a successful Lawyer.
This love triangle gives occasion to amusing situations such as Bridgette "cooking" food, getting dressed like a Bunny Prostitute and getting involved in the middle of "real men fighting".
Two successful men happens to be fighting over a pretty much unuseful human being that happens to pee sitting.
Imagine of we changed roles, that is, a very useless man having two successful and independent women (and what's more, one of whom is pretty active sexually leading to infidelity to every partner it has had) fighting over meat.
Can you imagine that happening nowadays?
This is why Bridgett Jones appeals to the female fantasy; getting rich men to fight over you while you spend the day gaining weight, not admitting alcoholism and ruining relationships anywhere you go, not because you're special or something, but just because.
Also, she has a gay friend!
