Lately I found out my external hard drive has been corrupting many files. I want to know if theres a program to check an entire file or folder to see if the file(s) is corrupted. I founded out that it's corrupting files when I was copying some files from the external HD to my internal HD and it gave me this message "Cannot copy 'name of file': Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)" I also found out when I tried to extract some zip files and it game me the same message.

I'm currently trying to copy as many files to the internal HD to see which files are corrupted but thats going to take too long. So I need a simpler solution. :'( I use the external HD for storing all my files and now it's corrupted. I should have figure something was wrong when it started making this weird noise.

If anyone have any info in checking if the file isn't corrupted or a way to recover the corrupted, that would be helpful. and thanks to those that help.

I tried chkdisk and nothing happen. but now, every time I try to use chkdisk it gives me an error message. Also if I have the external HD connected when I start my computer it runs chkdisk on the drive. It gives a bunch of some unable to read file message and nothing happens, the external HD still does the same thing giving me the same message.

I was thinking of doing just that, backing up the non corrupted data and then format the drive. I'm currently planning to do this.
I will try R-Studio. Thanks

edit:
I tried R-Studio and recovered most of my files. Still have many to go. Many thanks.
