Hi,
I'm a disabled gamer, actually immobilized, but love playing video games, especially platformer ones. I can't use any kind of physical controller except my PC mouse. But with plenty of assistive software, I can play nearly anything on my PC and also on PS5. However, I've always wondered if I could even play on a Switch, since there are so many good exclusive titles there too.
But I could control it only via my PC because I use on-screen keyboards for playing. (This is how I use my PS5 too. I'm new here and can't link a video but you can find me on YouTube if you're interested in how I'm able to do this. My channel is LordOfMice.)
I've been 'Googleing' for a while and found NXBT which looks promising for controlling the Switch. But without a Switch, I can't test whether it works with an on-screen keyboard.
So I was thinking, somebody who likes experimenting and has some spare time for this, would be willing to test it for me? I only want to know if it's possible to control the Switch with the Windows On-Screen Keyboard with a non-hacking method.

@hippy dave This is a good article. Thanks! I don't entirely understand how he's able to control the Switch yet but I'm gonna dig deeper.
Sounds like a specially designed firmware update for the 8bitdo controller lets it take instructions from the PC app and send them as normal controller input to the Switch.

Unless you mean the process of entering the inputs on the app. Maybe there's a video.

@hippy dave I wonder if this could work with other software than Overjoyed... I mostly use Hot Virtual Keyboard and Alt Controller.

I haven't tried it myself, but how about using a Switch emulator along with the on screen keyboard?
I'd rather look for a legal solution if it's possible. Nintendo is trying to terminate emulators anyway.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
