I am fortunate to be the owner of a real "Adaptoid," i.e. N64 controller adaptor for PC. If you don't know about the Adaptoid, it's just a USB dongle with one end matching the input for an official N64 controller. It supports the rumble pack in PC games and also when using N64 emulators. In most N64 emulators, it functions identically to playing on a real N64 - rumble pack, memory pack, all that shit works. And if it suits the game youre playing, you can "switch" the primary directional controller in-game. In other words, you can make the analog stick the primary directional controller, or convert to the d-pad being the primary. This is very nice when playing 2D console emulators, where an analog stick should not be used.

All in all, its the ultimate controller adaptor for Nintendo emulation fans. So ultimate, in fact, that theyre selling on ebay these days for sometimes over $200.

Sell it! That's a large sum of cash! You might as well buy the best joypad there's available for 70 bucks and keep the rest!

Maybe if you're a bit of a technician you could make your own version of the Adaptoid by looking at it and keeping it for yourself?

Sell it. There's DIY N64-PC adaptor schematics all over the interweb. Or, you could just buy a cheapo DC/N64/PS1-to-PC adaptor for like 15 bucks, if you're too lazy to build one. Not sure about memory cards working with those, but that's built into the emulators anyways...

Ugh $200?! I got mine for free for doing a review of the device for Dave's Video Gaming Classics back in the 1990s. I still use it very regularly as I mainly only touch Nintendo emulation when I bother so the feel is always right which is that usually one lost thing in emulators. Also it makes for one hell of a generally slick gamepad/joystick combo for PC things too.

I won't part with it as it's just too easy and comfy to use.

Yes they do, but the adaptoid is more I guess specific to peoples tastes. I have no idea how much those other units can do or not, but the adaptoid allows custom setup, keyboard mapping, multiple save settings, hot swap of analog/digital controls with a button combo on pad, allows use of the N64 rumble pack with any game, allows use of the memory pak too and to use it as another 'drive' on the PC to move your saves over and manage them on the computer,) and finally it will use any other n64 locked in part as well (like the gbc reader) on emulators, etc. All there is to it is 1 teeny exe file to install and this little 6" if that adapter and that's it. While the driver has no setup for anything beyond I think Win9x maybe Xp I forget, it still loves Vista and Win7 just fine.

Shit if someone paid me half what that one idiot did for $200 I'd give it up easy as I don't need it that bad.

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."
