The classic 1990s game Croc: The Legend of Gobbos is getting a remaster. Joining the likes of Spyro, Crash, and Banjo & Kazooie, Croc will be seeing an upgraded remaster at some point. Former lead of Argonaut and series creator Jez San said that while it's very early on to announce, "Croc HD" has begun development. Croc, while it never had much staying power, the original game sold over 3 million copies, performing on-par with other beloved games back in the day.

There are still plenty of hard as balls games in this day and age. In some ways even moreso. But they will often give you opportunities to save, have additional checkpoints and unlimited (or practically unlimited) lives. Or the optional assist modes.

Games like Super Meat Boy or Celeste would blow most retro hard games out of the water in terms of difficulty if they didn't have any of those aforementioned elements. Even more mainstream games like Rayman Origins/Legends of DKC Returns and Tropical Freeze. Imagine playing any of those games with life, save and checkpoint limitations from the 80s and 90s. Even with their polished modern controls and quality level design, they'd be absolutely brutal.
