long story short i deleted my entire sd card a few days ago, forgot about it, then emptied my trash before i knew what was happening. so now im screwed. im on a mac and i cant seem to find any good guides on how to fix my massive mistake. i was running cfw and im bricked because the blue light only flashes and nothing turns on. i tried replacing the boot.firm file and i still got nothing helpful. is there anything i can do?

There are lots of recovery programs out there that can be used to undelete files on an SD card. I'm not sure what's the best option these days – but be sure to try free solutions first; there are plenty of those. I think EASUS is popular. But be sure to put your SD card aside until you find a recovery program; writing new files to the SD card is the worst thing you can do if you want to recover the data.

Anyway, if replacing the boot.firm file isn't getting rid of the blue light, then there is probably either something wrong with the SD card you are using, or possibly even the SD card reader in the 3DS itself. The best thing to do would be to try again with another SD card. Be sure to check it for errors first using https://3ds.hacks.guide/f3x-(mac) , and of course be sure that it is FAT32-formatted. (Do not run f3x or h2testw on an SD card if it has deleted data that you are trying to recover!)

But did EaseUS managed to find your deleted Nintendo 3DS folder and its files? By the way, do you have flexible morals? If you know where to look, there are ways to getting that program... The rest of whatever that means is up to you. :|

If you have a spare SD card to use a temporary substitution, you can continue with getting your 3DS back to working order.

Unerasing deleted files from FAT32 devices (especially if they aren't securely deleted) is a trivial operation, software-wise; there has to be something out there. But I am completely unfamiliar with what the options are for Macs.

I think bootable "live" solutions might work. Try SystemRescueCD, specifically TestDisk (see instructions here).

Don't bother. With you being on a Mac, you won't be able to restore anything emptied from flash storage.
What gives you that idea..? FAT32 is FAT32, regardless of whether it's being written with Windows or Mac. Do Macs automatically perform some kind of secure erase?

I really wish I had checked here before reformatting my SD card. I lost all my saves and games from the freeShop days. All my Pokemon, Rhythm Heaven, Fire Emblem saves and hours poured in are permanently gone. So at this point I just wanna know, can this program REALLY find the 3DS folder and will ALL of the contents be intact? Has anyone else had experience with this? I need to know for future use.

It's important that you use Checkpoint to backup decrypted versions of your important save files on a regular basis and keep them somewhere safe online.

It all depends on the exact details. The most important thing is to not write anything to the card after it is deleted or reformatted – re-writing stuff to the card is the best way to make the deleted data unrecoverable.

The most basic deletion techniques just mark the previously-used space in the filesystem as available for writing, one way or another. In that case all you need is a utility that basically marks that space as used again. If you reformatted your SD card because it got corrupted somehow, then that's a different matter.

https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/96kg4v/my_3ds_sd_got_corrupted_and_i_successfully/ also recommends Testdisk, as noted above.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
