Hacking Do saves carry over to SX Pro games?

If you have a cart version of a game and buy SX Pro on which you put an image of said game (not necessarily backed up from your cart, just any image of the same game you may find online), will you have your saves still intact as if you were still playing on the cart version or are saves somehow bound to a certain cart/image and so they won't carry over?

Tested with Mario x Rabbids, save did carry over but it was a little weird as the 1st launch of the xci made it look as if it was booted for the 1st time (asked for the language etc) but then the game progress was here.

Someone already answered the question with a correct response but I'll just provide the reasoning. Switch cartridges are read-only meaning they cannot be modified in any way, shape, or form. This simply means that they cannot store save data on themselves. The save data is stored on the Switch but cannot be accessed via the current user-permissions (i.e. without hacking the Switch or using their cloud service).
