It's one thing if a clean dump doesn't work on hardware. It's another if tampered dumps don't.

Have you even bothered to read the thread or the NFO (in regards to Casino)? There's a number of pieces of hardware it's apparently not working on. And quite a few sites are ignoring the bat/IPS. Nobody wants to deal with that bullcrap.

how can a site ignore the .bat when it's within the .zip? oh, i fogot, we are talking webwarez here

if you "sites" tamper around with the releasefiles they suck anyway and it's their fault. altho i agree with you, that they should make sure this shit works on all hardware, doing some pointless compression that doesn't even work on most cards is just a waste of time. atleast they included the revert patch, so if this indeed brings the rom back to it's original state i see no reason why this would be a nuke and all "propers" should be nuked for being dupes.

also to the guy that said alot of gba "had to be redumped". you should stop thinking any of these releasegroups (besides Sir VG, who i don't count in anyway) give a fuck about your need for "pure" roms. if you wanna collect z0mgall100%purebreegbar0mz then this is fine with me, but the scene is about releasing working games so people can play them. when the game works, noone besides nointro and other fetishists cares about the intro, hence no other gba scenegroup ever propered based on some release having an intro.

The point is that the rom should not be tampered with. If it needs to include files to patch it back to its original state then its been tampered with. If its been tampered with then there is little chance that the carts it does not work with would be updated by the makers to play such a rom. If it does not play in its original form then there is a high chance that good cart makers would fix the problem. If I remember correctly Brothers in arms was also a Squire release that had the same compression and that didnt even include a patch to fix it. Why doesent squire just release it uncompressed with the tools to compress it if you want, that way if the tools are not in the download its not such a big deal.

To me this is a bit like saying we screwed up the Mona Lisa to save space, all the artwork is still there and there is nothing missing you just have to unscrew it it to look at it, Oh and we removed all the white bits just pop em back in the pictre when you unscrewed it to get the full effect, whats the point.

that Brothers in Arms screwup aside, if they include the revert patch, just apply it and you'll get the game in it's original state. i really don't see the problem. and you know, the flashcard makers could just run the revert patch themselves and fix their cards so they work with the clean dump - shocking, isn't it. i agree that all this non-working filesystem packing is quite pointless right now, but as long as they include some way to fix their mess there isn't really a reason to complain, is there?

p.s. i didn't get your Mona Lisa analogy.

You have no idea what purity means, if in fact a rom has been altered in ANY manner even f its been re-packed to save space, your altering the compatibility on hardware be it on a real DS cart or on a SLOT 1/2 device.

With many Flash carts having problems the best of times, why make things worse by trying to be clever and re-pack it?

SQUiRE at the moment are just causing problems for the scene and making themselves look unprofessional in the process.

Why not just do it the other way round, supply the pure rom with files to compress it if you wish, problem solved. If rom sites dont inlude the files to compress it no big deal, rom still useable.

Mona Lisa would be like the file, compressed ( screwed up ) but its still the picture in all sense of the word you just have to uncompress it ( unscrew it ) to see it. Whats the point, anyone who collects such things want the unscrewed version rather than having the screwed up one to save space.

Edit :- Also a potential problem that no one else has made is that most rom cataloguing programs ( like offlinelist ) only take into account the rom when repacking and archiving, with this unpacking process you would have to keep all the unpacking files in a separate directory, check if your rom needs them applied when unpacking before you can play it. like I said WHAT'S THE POINT, its just messy.

I dont care about modified games but if SQUiRE wanted to just please everyone it would be the clean rom with a bat to add the compression rather than remove, and let the enduser decide. Yet obviously they want to modify it probably just to piss off the 100% CORRECT DUMP lovers.

It's not about whining. If the roms just do not work properly on all the hardware and the problem does not lie in the hardware, a proper version should be released as far as I see those issues.

The Japanese Pokemon Diamond and Pearl still need to be re-dumped however! I don't see how this "scene" who supposedly gives every release thorough examination lets a full 64MB of overdump data slip by, yet no one noticing until 6 months later when the US versions get dumped correctly. And even then nobody cares.

I recently dumped my Japanese Pearl and my friend's Japanese Diamond. Guess how big the wrg dumper reported them as and dumped them as? That's right, 1024Mbit.

I dunno, but it seems they really used a too big memory chip in that game. Either that, or the wrg dumper doesn't recognize the size correctly. Which is unlikely, as all other games I tried dumped exactly as they should.
