Hardware Ds mode roke

Yesterday a friend of mine gave me his old 3ds to fix the buttons for him, and install Luna, with all that finished I put the og flipnote on the system (dsiware) and trying to open it only sends the system to the power off screen.
I decided to try a ds cart and sure enough, it does the same thing...

Ds mode is broke

I've had this problem before from using an hourly build of luma, witch was soon fixed with an official release.
I currently have the system on the latest official luma (8.1.1 / b9s 1.2 ).

So am I just stupid or what?

Any input is appreciated as I promised it back by Sunday...

... for once 3ds.guide did NOT work

i ran the magnet torrents, and installed with fbi, but alas, i get the problem still

i can confirm that gba works fine, but i can not get ds mode to work at all, ive tried to install these (cias) multiple times now, but i get no results

ive tried the troubleshooting on the git hub, to no avail
