EA and Valve announce partnership, EA games to release on Steam again

If you’ve been playing on PC for the last couple of years, you might be aware of how Electronic Arts’ games are exclusive to their launcher, Origin. That will no longer be the case anymore, as EA and Valve are teaming up to see the former’s game titles return to Steam. Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order will be the first EA game to kick off the partnership, with a scheduled Steam release of November 15th. More games are slated to follow, with The Sims 4 and Unravel 2 launching soon on the platform as well. FIFA 20, Battlefield V, and Apex Legends will also follow, in 2020. Games with online features will offer crossplay, allowing Origin and Steam users to play together.

That’s not all, though, as even EA’s subscription service, EA Access will be launching on Steam this spring, giving players access to a library of EA titles for a monthly fee. Gabe Newell stated that, “this is a good day for gamers. We’re excited to partner with EA to bring their great games and subscription service to Steam, but also open up our communities to each other in an unprecedented way that will benefit players around the world”.

So does this mean that Origin is a failure, or that Valve capitulated and gave EA 90-95% of the revenue?
Most likely the former. If they had been doing well with Origin they'd be no reason to allow their games on steam. Although it seems you still need to install Origin to run the games even if you purchase them on steam so I guess they have nothing to loose except whatever Valve is charging them. Still better to have a sale at reduced profit than no sale at all.

Isn't that the price everywhere though/. Not just steam?
Steam supports regional prices, while Origin doesn't. My country(Israel) got supported about a year ago, so everything costs shekels(our currency) now on Steam.
Because of that, lots of triple A games end up being more expensive on Steam than in other stores like Origin and Uplay.

It's not surprising when that's the same case for most of..well, most of everything in my country :/

Imagine having to announce a partnership just to release games on steam while everyone else on steam has already been doing so without having to announce squat.

You might be able to circumvent by buying prepaid steam codes online from a site like amazon. they have stuff like $20-1000 and you choose the amount. Then you just change steam region however you feel like. Lotta work for a few bucks though

I don't get why the Origin DRM for EA's Steam games is such a big deal. It just stays in the background and doesn't bug you, and just does its thing on its own when you start up your game. When you close the game, it goes back in the background, out of your way. It works fine for NFS Hot Pursuit on Steam, and for my Far Cry games which do the same thing but with UPlay, and neither of them bug me.
