The PlayStation 5 has been out for over a month already, so it's about time we start to put together the obligatory Essentials list! Like other essentials lists on GBAtemp, all you have to do to vote for your favorite PlayStation 5 game(s) is comment which game(s) you want to vote for. Every vote will get a point added to the tally. Please note that you should only vote for games that have a PS5 specific version. Titles that are made for PS4 (like God of War) that don't have a PS5 specific version but are otherwise playable on PS5 should instead be voted on in the PS4 Essentials thread.

As always, there are four categories: Essentials, Recommended, Noteworthy, and Other.

Essentials (15+)

Recommended (9-14)

Noteworthy (4-8)
Astro's Playroom +7
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart +4
Demon's souls +4

Sackboy: A Big Adventure +2
Spider-Man Miles Morales +2
Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition +1
Returnal +3
Borderlands 3 +1
Doom Eternal +2
Metro Exodus +1
Immortals Fenyx Rising +1
Guilty Gear Strive +1
Ghosts of Tsushima Director's Cut +2
Resident Evil Village +1
Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate +1
Tales of Arise +1
Deathloop +1

Updated up to subcon959's post.

A bit too soon for that. Right now there's just launch games and some are just filler to show its potential.

Gran Turismo 7 will definitely be a must for all PS5 owners.

I believe I have all 6 PS5 exclusives up to date (and that includes Astro's Playground). Out of these I believe the one that is the most essential is:
- Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart.

I mean, the handling, the response, the speed on those hoover boots on 60FPS Performance RT... it all feels great.

Other than that I really like Returnal, and I've enjoyed the rest of them a lot, but Rift Apart and Returnal take the game for me.

Does this include games that Started on PS4 and got their PS5 native upgrades (not enhanced)?

+1 Borderlands 3 (I'm so very impressed with how smooth it is even has a 120fps mode)
+1 Doom Eternal (for the same reason as above)
+1 Metro Exodus (Impressive in all respects, graphically with its Raytracing, to its Soundtrack and Storytelling)
+1 Immortals Fenyx Rising (i just love that game, a lot of fun)

The performance increase from PS4 is well worth it in such a beautiful game. The included DLC is also nice.

Isn't the performance from the standard PS4 game in PS5 enhanced backwards compatibility mode increased as well? Is there that much of a difference? (Don't want to buy again)

No need to buy again unless you want the PS5 native version with DLC on same disc. The resolution is slightly better here otherwise performance is similar through back-compat mode. However if you upgrade you do get the haptics, adaptive triggers and 3D audio. There's also the Japanese lip-sync if you care about that.

@Ericzander can we get an update pleeeez
Not sure if I can get behind that, to be honest. The game’s fun (although the story is a little on the nose), but so far I haven’t seen it do anything that specifically makes it shine on the PS5. Big missed opportunity as far as DualSense features are concerned, it plays about the same on every platform.
