Ez-flash DE update

Hi All,
I will get my ez-flash DE soon, so I have a question. I will update it with custom firmware "Simple"
But I want to know if I first need to update it with the stock Kernel from official website before I update with the custom one ? Or can I just skip the official update and get the Simple update ?

Does "Simple" have same update as the official one ?
Kernel 1.03 and firmware 6.0 ?

You might want to post in the GBA section.

I believe the thread for the simple theme says you need to use the official kernel to update the firmware on the DE.
