Finished the game in its entirety 2 days before release. I had quite a fun time, and I highly recommend people that own a Switch to purchase this game; let Nintendo know to make more 2D Mario games like this!
Since I've seen all this game has to offer, maybe I could do an AMA in this thread?

How does it compare to the nsmb games?

Do you think they actually added enough content to differentiate this from past titles?

Was the elephant stuff interesting more than a quick gag?

All the 2d Marios kinda run together in my head

Other than the normal ending what does 100% completing it do or show?
Only the title screen changes its background to black, and as far as I know that's all what changes. Haven't tried playing the final boss again after beating it once because Ryujinx wouldn't stop crashing.

My only question is, is there much to do post game?
Unfortunately not a whole lot. In the New Super Mario-series past Wii, there was Star World and the urge to collect all remaining star coins. This game calls its hidden world "Special World", only accessible from one specific path per world, which unlock extra hard levels by just playing the game regularly. You can beat most of these levels without defeating the final boss, except for the Badge Exam, which requires you to beat every level in the game. After beating this level, you unlock a badge titled "Sound Off?", which replaces sound effects with mouthmade sound effects. Poplin Shops also start selling "All [insert powerup] Power" badges, which replaces every powerup with that specific powerup.

And the six medals are post game too I guess.

As to be expected, the environment and characters are much more alive than the New Super Mario-series. The mechanics flow together a lot better too, instead of offering a bunch of different gimmicks, here it links them together in a seemless way. The addition of extra content such as Badge Challenges, Wiggler Races, Search Party and "Break Time!" minigames helps break apart the pace of constantly playing level after level too. It's overall a huge improvement, though some of the level design choices do remind me a bit too much of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which isn't too great.

As for the elephant powerup, it's nothing to write home about. It's okay at best and I don't find its mechanic of being able to spew out water all that useful. Though I do like how the backing instruments change to trumpets.

It's good. There aren't a lot of new power ups. Elephant is okay . You can hold water in your trunk and splash it. Whip things with your trunk. Bubble Mario is ok. You can bounce off of them. The badges are good. You can unlock different powers and pick 1 before the round. It gets mapped to the R button. Things like an upward wall jump or swim boost. It's fun.

I will add though, beating the final boss on Ryujinx with my hardware was a pain in the ass. Every time, on a very specific frame where the game attempts to load the first phase, the game freezes immediately with Ryujinx closing soon after. I had to retry from the beginning five times before I disabled multithreading and got the boss to pass once.

I tried beating it again just now and it crashed yet again. Oh well.

Have you unlocked all the standees?
Yes! I realized they were a thing after I had already ticked over the flower coin counter and beaten the final boss, so there was some catching up to do. I had to replay some levels a few times to purchase them all. Needless to say, I didn't use them and only got them to get that 100% mark.
