Today, the underground scene warez group, 'BigBlueBox' (BBB) - known for releasing illegal Nintendo Switch game cartridge files onto the internet, have now released the first Nintendo Switch eShop game dump:

This new file format, ripped from the Nintendo Switch eShop servers, is being called a Nintendo Submission Package (.nsp) file. There is currently no known way to run this file type, or any BBB release on hacked Switch hardware, available to the public.
In the above .nfo file, packaged with the ripped .nsp eShop game, BBB have also revealed the master_key_03 for the Switch (removed), allowing any currently released Switch file to be decrypted.

They log a LOT of data. Far, far more than 3DS. It's been said before, telemetry on Switch is high. Best way to not get banned on the Switch is to not do dumbshit, you can't fool high telemetry forever regardless of how carefully you may scrub the reports. The moment something doesn't agree server-side with Switch-side would be a huge and obvious red flag.

We won't really know how they plan to sniff out cfw or if they even will attack it directly. CFW itself isn't an issue, and piracy is much easier for them to detect because most kids pirating have no sense of discreteness and they know what a given console is meant to own. See: Pokemon.

They would know if you were trying to run (while connected) software you don't own, they know what any account/Switch is meant to own. This is likely a dump through a Switch, not an actual dump from the eShop (as I don't see how they'd bypass the auth server and if they did, they'd get logged and banned immediately as well as start getting logged for what is effectively criminal activity). Why they left it in this format, I have no idea as this is just a wrapper on NCAs.

Of course they could whitelist software you own and ban you for running any title id your console is not supposed to run. They could have done so on 3DS and didn't - they only ban for running certain title ids or out-of-region title ids if I remember correctly (though I disabled reporting). I'm not completely up to date here, but even Sony hasn't done that.

You kinda took the second quote out of context. The person I answered to wondered if the console the game was dumped from was banned for dumping the game, not running content not licensed to it. Your answer is about the latter.

If the title was bought, downloaded, then dumped, why would the console be banned? This is just a "cart dump" of an eShop title as BBB has already been doing for a while.

3DS didn't handle ownership the same way, let me direct you to a breakdown on Switch CDN and how it handles ownership/downloading, its a good read: https://www.reddit.com/r/SwitchHacks/comments/759myu/the_eshop_and_cdn_explained_switch_edition/ Unless it booting from a cart, they'll know what you are playing and if you own it or not, if you are connected to their servers. (And, honestly, if you're dumb enough to pirate and then connect to their servers then you deserve every ban.)

And they did ban people for playing stuff they didn't own on 3DS (but that also had a major flaw in software distribution and personalization, as well as the cart backdoor), we had fairly routine banwaves and people crying about it, hence why I referenced Pokemon but in general Nintendo was fairly lax with the 3DS of their own choosing, doesn't mean they will be with the Switch and they have tools set-up to 'bring the hammer down' if they so choose. The Switch is a lot harder (really impractical unless you want to start committing retail fraud) to unban and, unlike the 3DS, you can't hide it behind other certs while protecting your private ID.

Exactly, why would it be banned? That's what I said!

I've already read this, but this is mostly about how downloading from the Nintendo CDN has changed. It means you can't implement some kind of Switch freeShop as easily as you could on 3DS, since they finally check that.

They can check on 3DS which game is a game card (and then check the private header, which they do) or if it is an eShop copy (which they could cross-reference with your purchase history, which they don't).

The Pokémon banwave was because people were playing early, not because they cross-referenced your purchase history. Everyone who connected to the Nintendo Network before a certain date with Pokémon was banned.

What they will do on Switch remains to be seen, as no CFW with patched sigchecks has been published so far.

Have you personally inspected traffic sent between the Switch and servers? Do you have any evidence at all for this opinion or are you just making it up and parading it as fact?
I doubt he did, but he is actually 100% correct, regardless.
The amount of telemetry is insanely high, every time you visit the home menu/exit a game, packets get sent.
Every time you open an applet or game, packets get sent.
Pretty much everything you do is sent to Nintendo unless you opt out.

Indeed not. :)

Huh? Opting out defeats the telemetry completely?

Not everything and while you can opt from sending stuff, it'd be a red flag if you completely dark, and they can always adjust what they expect with updates. They will have server side logs as well, and your console is easy to track since you can't just make up auth and IDs.

Have you inspected the traffic? Do you guys have any evidence for your claims?

...Not everything and while you can opt from sending stuff, it'd be a red flag if you completely dark, and they can always adjust what they expect with updates. They will have server side logs as well, and your console is easy to track since you can't just make up auth and IDs.
Yeah I think the same too, makes me remember Punkbuster on games, if we block their screenshot function stealth without them knowing, then someone in the server would check it and report it and you could get banned...

I don't think we can get away with blocking it would have to detect and send modified packets without nintendo knowing, I don't think it will be easy, but not that I care for multiplayer...

Exactly! I find Nintendo Games to be much more fun playing with someone in the same room or alone I mean BOTW.
For nice multiplayer online: PC.

Also I think maybe I'll be actually recording my Switch's traffic @Quantumcat maybe something interesting will come from that. Maybe just a nice graph though...

Wow, it's Yooka-Laylee.
I want to try this game out first. It got mixed reviews. Seems like a Banjo-Kazooie type game, but why the mixed reviews? Love Banjo-Kazooie.

Banjo-Kazooie went stale after Rare bought it out...the N64 games were great, however, the Xbox 360 versions were TERRIBLE, especially once they integrated the Kinect into it....since Yooka-Laylee came after that, people assume it's going to be pretty bad too I guess

Yooka-Laylee is not a RARE game, and RARE today is not what it used to be. YL was a crowd-funded title with dev's and writers from the original BK series. Unfortunatley, YL suffers from what reviewers called stale game-play, under performing graphics/lag and mini-game fatigue. The Switch port also suffered some major performance issues on release which they've apparently fixed in following patches, something that we're unable to install at the moment even if we could use the BBB dump. I'm personally looking forward to playing YL as I also love BK, I'm just stating what most reviews I've read have said about it.

What the fuck are you on about
The games were re-released on XBOX, looks like they used the Kinect for the Nuts and Bolts sequel.

How exactly do you opt out of that?
