It's only a matter of time before they take down the website with the qr code.Nintendo must be doing poorly in sales right now,I wouldn't be surprised if they paywall the switch from doing online multiplayer because of this.

I hope people know that this isn't about the eshop's stupid logo but instead logo.bin (The 3ds animation between games)
The freeShop application also contains unauthorized copies of the Nintendo 3DS Logo Data file, covered by U.S. Copyright Reg. No. PA0001781880, which further infringes Nintendo's rights.

If you have a .cia of a homebrew app use the homebrew launcher channel's logo.bin.

From what I understand, the application was not taken down because of it's unique feature, but rather because it contains Ninty's eShop Logo?
So if we were to replace that logo with something else, it'd be fine?

not just that it says this to The freeShop application provided at https://github.com/Cruel/freeShop/releases infringes Nintendo's copyrights, because the application circumvents Nintendo's technological protection measures in violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Nintendo encrypts the game files available from its eShop servers to prevent users from accessing those files without paying for them. Nintendo believes the freeShop application circumvents Nintendo's protection measures by decrypting the game files accessible from its eShop servers, allowing freeShop users to access and play Nintendo's eShop games for free

Well let's see, it's built with copyrighted material (basically anything that uses makerom for a CIA), it uses a copyrighted Nintendo logo, it can be used to directly download illegal ticket files (updater built into app), it uses Nintendo's installation procedures, and above all else, its primary usage is piracy. Nintendo pretty much has full legal right to DMCA this.
Actually, their only rightful reason is for the copyrighted logo. All the crap about piracy is the same argument companies make against Torrent clients. Nintendo has to prove that freeShop's developer is purposely purveying copyrighted content, and this ain't the case. It's up to the end user to decide if they're going to use it for illegal purposes or not. Saying "well of course everyone's going to use this for piracy because that's its purpose" is also a fallacy and not inherently true. A good attorney would be able to fight this easily.

Yes it should be fine. (Remove the eshop logo in the app just in case anyways)

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
