Further information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch "Mig Switch" flashcart has been revealed

mig.png

A few days after the monumental reveal of a work-in-progress flashcart being made for the Nintendo Switch, more information has been made available. The previously unnamed flashcart is set to be called "Mig Switch", and the initial Twitter user that unveiled the Mig Switch's existence, After Time X, managed to get in contact with the team behind it all. According to them, they were offered a review unit of the Mig Switch, but turned it down, as the After Time X team fears legal repercussions from dealing with "backup loader" hardware.

Another interesting tidbit is that existing dumps of Switch games will NOT be compatible with the Mig Switch, and backups will need to be repacked to function with the flashcart. Games played with the flashcart can be played online, as well.

The Mig Switch currently has a website, where it is seeking distributors to work together with in order to sell initial limited quantities of the Mig Switch device, with the first units to be delivered sometime in January. The team claims that full availability is expected around March/April 2024. It'll come with the Mig Switch card, and the Mig Switch Dumper, with the latter of which allowing you to back up your games using NXdumpTool.

According to this, it will not be possible to use one certificate for all games. Nintendo aren't that dumb and didn't make the same mistake than the 3DS. Now certificate are linked to the game, and they can see if it's good or no.

As i heard, the linker will work with only .xci and without certificate. I think the best way to use it is to put the Switch on airplane mode before putting the MIG in the Switch, and play all games you want offline.

One other thing for people who have no access to CFW is there is no way to get updates onto Switch other than the Nintendo way. This probably means they can't really do much pirating as the cert would be burned if two or more go online at the same time, once the cert is burned there is no way to get updates. Given that many if not most game won't be fully functional without the day 0 patch the market for this device is going to be very small after the initial excitement died.

It is going to be small scale pirating. Kind of like a gaming club sharing game cart kind of thing. Doing it with people you trust but then are you sure you really trust those other kids, one bad apple is going to get the whole club banned.

Only pirate games that are fully functional with 0 updates and turn off wifi when you game is maybe not even 100% safe. Who knows if Nintendo decide to capture data and send when you go online?

You are safe with offline emu-mmc only, Switch log every game you start so if they are on linker they can probably detect and ban you later

If your console isn't hacked, you won't be able to setup emuMMC with this because all it does is emulate a Switch cartridge. After all, why do you think switching games is done by repeatedly pressing the flashcard? Its because the Mig Switch isn't a hack. If your console is hacked, you can setup emuMMC but you don't need the Mig Switch anyways because you can play a larger pool of games with CFW.

I'm waiting for a softmod. I think it' silly to buy a flashcard and give real personal data (Bank / Name / Address) to someone criminal. I also hate commercial piratery. Look to SX OS. You paid for it and now it's completely useless. Atmosphere is for free and still working.
Yes but atmosphere cant be installed on all switches, only certain hacked models

nintendo is booking a cell for these guys as we speak
100% no fucking way will there be no repercussions!
Well nintendo shouldnt, as they've got a disclaimer on thier web that its fpr backup and they support not piracy

Here's hoping we see a ton of clone carts at substantial cheaper prices than this will be just like on the ds
Hopefully the manufacturer didn't implement another thing that kills the console if a clone is detected ... but yeah I can wait for clones, already have plenty modded consoles. I think this flash cart is great for harder to mod systems such as the oled. I have a modded oled already tho' but still.

offline DOES NOT protect you without cfw and emu-mmc, telemtry tracks everything at all times on switch and its very good at detecting pircy

if you use this on an unhacked switch and pirate, you will get banned sooner than later

and this will not accept custom xci or patched game or nsp

so once banned you are SOL no update patches, no dlc, no bonus content, no f2p or download games, big nada, unless you hardware mod

this is a product for suckers and no one else

To be honest, lots of people already have banned switches and some don't care if they get banned or not if they never play online or buy games from the store. For those with hacked switches that are banned this could act as just an extra space to store games, for those with untouched/unmodded switches this can be a legit way to backup and play your own cartridge and share with a family member that might also have a switch. For example say you have 2 kids which both have their own switch, well you would only need to buy one game and make a clone, then both kids would be able to play the game.

How much money do companies usually pay to the person that finds vulnerabilities to a system. They don’t look like the type that would look for that cash though but I’m just curious because I think there were people in the past that got paid for sharing this info with big companies.

Only if the company allows family sharing which it doesn't. If they detect the same copy is being played on both consoles at the same time they will instantly ban both unless you challenge them in court providing evidence that the game is being played within your household.

That’s dumb, they should have gave something, nvidia messed up big time and supposedly especially because other systems supposedly had that same vulnerability as the switch if I read correctly at that time.
