GBAtemp Experience Points

Before today, you were able to Like a post on our forum to show appreciation for a helpful post by another forum member, but ultimately the Likes gained by members didn't account for anything.

Now, with the GBAtemp Experience Points system we are introducing a levelling system that is powered by your content.

With the XP system we are pushing to encourage a more positive forum experience by providing more incentive to those who contribute to the GBAtemp community!

Gaining XP

XP is gained whenever you post helpful and constructive content - such as by posting a helpful reply; creating a popular thread; submitting a review or tutorial; getting a User Submitted News article promoted to the front page among many other ways...

To see a full and maintained list of ways to gain (and lose) XP please follow see the XP help page.

Every time your content gets recognised your current XP count will increase by a certain pre-determined value depending on the content.

Level Up!

When your XP count reaches a certain threshold you will be promoted to the Next Level. Just how many levels are there? That's for you to find out!

You can keep an eye on your current XP and level in your Account Menu or thread-side postbit, as shown in the image below.

When you level up you will receive a forum notification alerting you!

What treats are there in store for high ranking members? Besides bragging rights, the GBAtemp staff are working on perks so stay tuned for more information...

Leaderboards

<img src="http://gbatemp.net/images/xp_leaderboards.png" width="550px"/>

If you wish to compare your current standing with other GBAtemp members you can do so by following the link to the XP leaderboard below.

On this page you can see detailed statistics on other members such as their current XP and level and when they will level up next.

Is this a fresh start?

No. We value all our members previous efforts in making GBAtemp a successful and bustling resource of information and have taken previous contributions into account. We have assigned all members a current level based on previous contributions and activity. To see a detailed explanation of how this was calculated, please see the XP help page.

__________________________

We hope you enjoy using the GBAtemp Experience Points system and hope you find it a fun way to take part at GBAtemp.net

Please note, we are still fine tuning the system so don't be surprised if you see any sudden changes to your XP count - we are also working on many other ways to gain XP and these will be rolled out as they become available.

For a complete rundown on the new system please see the XP help page linked below.

As always with the launch of a new feature, please do let us know if you encounter any bugs or issues with the XP system in the thread below.

This sounds like a very good idea, it is a way to promote good threads and increase content, which is always good for a big community like this where people sometimes get a bit grumpy, ruining the nice atmosphere of this forum.

Can't wait for the full implementation.

I'm proud to see how many users have embraced the XP system and all the positive and constructive feedback we've been given :)

Note that this is only the start and we have more ideas in the future, such as rewards, more ways to earn XP, extra XP events and more.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

  • Veho @ Veho:
    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.

I have yaoi anime hands, very lorge but slender.

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    but that's a long shot
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think only the red mario kart edition phat was v5
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
