ShutTheCamUp

Removes the camera shutter and high-pitched beep sound from the Nintendo 3DS (works on all 3ds apps that use the camera)

Github Link: https://github.com/TehFridge/ShutTheCamUp/

DISCLAIMER
I do not condone any misuses of this patch for malicious purposes or whatever.

Why tho?

Imagine you are playing your 3ds in a cafe or smt, you need to use the camera feature in some game (for example. Face Raiders) and suddenly the shutter sound bursts out of the speakers and people look at you weirdly, we wouldnt want that.

Also like... phones don't do that sort of thing (well maybe in japan, china cause there the law demands that anything with a camera has to have a shutter sound)

I mostly created this patch cause i like the vibe of vlogging with a 3ds. It has its charm you know.

How is it possible?!

The shutter sound was embedded in some system process, we just discovered it now lol. So i just decided to null the bytes with audio data, and it worked!

Does it work on Old and New 3DS?

Yup. there are two seperate patches individually for the new and old model of the console.

So do you just rename the file to the proper number.ips? Because I put it in the proper directory for my N3DS and it isn't working. Unless you don't rename it?

I followed the instructions, but I still have a shutter sound. Just to be sure, I even tried both sets (as if I had the lower Luma version and the higher one). I have an N3DS, for context. No idea what I've done wrong :/

[Found out the problem, IT WILL STILL MAKE NOISE IF YOU HAVE YOUR ATTENTION SOUND SET FROM SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAN NONE]
Yea, i would need to make an another patch just for this lol. Cause the attention sounds are in the 3ds camera app itself. More specifically - the romFS.
And the shutter sound + video recording sound are in some system process.

I accidentally had it on (It wasn't making noise before because of my *corrupted SD card*) and you would imagine my surprise when this thing that I just installed that nulls out the bytes (Thought it was garbage sound/data) suddenly made it work (I actually just never took a picture after I fixed my SD card)

That's an interesting case of a patch suddenly fixing something it was not supposed to lmao.
Glad to help i guess.

The patch wasn't it, me fixing the SD card was.
It was just a coincidence that the first time I took a picture since fixing my SD card was when I installed this.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but how hard would it be to make a *custom* sound with a patch instead? Obviously nulling out the bytes is easier, but still..
Since the sounds are embedded in code.bin i could try swapping them out. But tbh i dont know if that would work

Only Xbox I don't have is the OG, and One X model specifically, I regret giving my chipped OG model to one of my kids years ago, after later hearing he sold it to pawn shop, damn kids!

I just recently picked up a n64 from a garage sell, and looking to mod it and add a HDMI port to it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/3548173115...044&customid=4f3038da73b61afddf7e5e90f4153856

I'd like to find a power strip and HDMI selector built in 1 unit, so I can select which game system I want, and will switch to that hdmi, and power on that plug/power supply only, so don't have all game systems powered all the time, but can't find anything like. May just have to make something myself.

Maybe start a kick starter page and sell them, yea right. Big N would prob C&D me, not anything Big N related, but just because that's what they do nowdays. Then come out with they own in a year or so.

@Xdqwerty, Nice. Which operating system are you installing?
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, windows 10 and some linux distro like linux mint

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Yeah, I'd recommend having another OS just in-case you want to play games.

    @SylverReZ, cuz of lag?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, No. Whenever you use the internet on Windows, Microsoft collects personal data and installs bloatware that isn't necessarily needed, such as Edge.

    @SylverReZ,
I recall @impeeza mentioned some trick about not having bloatware when installing windows where you set up your country to "world" or smh like that

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Yes, you can debloat the operating system, but in some cases for me it just reinstalls them.

I also recall my brother downloded a "non bloated" version of windows 11 on his pc

  • impeeza @ impeeza:
@Xdqwerty yes, when you are installing Windows on the first steps you are asked for your current location, you MUST to select «international» so no bloatware is installed, because the bloatware is location based. if this night I have some time I will setup a VM and take screenshots.
